Old rating from 14-11-16 - A 330ml bottle from Marks & Spenser. Pours nice deep mahogany colour with a thin white head. Aromas of rye, caramel & hints of toffee. Flavour is on the sweet side, with caramel, rye, toffee, vanilla & hints of chocolate present. Mildly bitterness in the finish. Overall very good, better than the average M & S beer.

330ml bottle from M&S. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a mostly lasting frothy off white head. The aroma is grainy malt, dough, biscuit, red berry fruits, dry floral hop. The flavour is moderate sweet light bitter with a smooth rich, grainy, toffee, fruity, spicy, dry hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle at home, 26/08/17. Rich chestnut brown with a decent light beige cap. Nose is nutty, toffee, biscuit malts, light spice, red apple. Taste comprises brown bread, biscuit crumble, toffee, dried fruits, brown sugar, light spice. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a dusting of earthy hop bitterness. Fine for a supermarket beer.

Bottle from Marks & Spencer, Cambridge. Reddish brown with a foamy off-white head. Translucent. Cranberry aroma with some spicy and chocolatey notes. Sweet and spicy with the rye grain to the fore of the taste. A slightly more pronounced bitterness at the end jars just that little bit. Ripe raspberry, carob and toast in the aftertaste. Competent and enjoyable if flawed.

Bottle. Copper. Minimal head. Aroma reminds me of a dark Bock. Red berries. Taste is fruity, slightly sweet, bready, nutty, bready and caramell. As it gets warmer there’s also a hint of chocolate and cocoa. Long bitter and dry aftertaste. It’s ok but I’m missing the rye character. I’ve got the feeling a Scotch Single Malt would go well with this.

Nice, tasty and refreshing ale.
Clear dark golden color with a fine off white head. Ok intensity in the aroma. Medium body and a fine carbonation. Ok balance between sweetness and bitterness. Bready, fruity and some spices in the flavor.
