Cask, gravity at The Grapes, Oxford, Saturday 12th April 2014 Dark in colour with a slight off-white head. A little fruity sour tang but in truth I really didn’t rate this at all in fact it was a distance behind the XT XPA and the other Wild Beer (Fresh) the roots did not sell this to me. Tap at Port Street House, Manchester. Grimy, puddle water colour. No head. Aesthetically challenged, to say the least. Roast nuttiness. Light, appley sourness. Taste is nutty dry. The light sourness is in there too. Fairly smooth palate. Short, dry finish. Decent. Only comes in at 3.4 because it looks very wrong!

Brewdog Shoreditch. Keg. Pretty much an opaque dark brown beer. Small pale cream coloured head. Palate is light and crispy. Mild brown malts and a whisper of dried fruits and chocolate. Finishes light and crisp. What happened here, was there a temporary rebrand to ’Tame Beer’?

Keg at BrewDog Shepherd’s Bush - London. Pours clear brown with a creamy, tan head. The aroma holds toasted, doughy brown bread with nips of cocoa. Light-medium sweet flavor with basic toasty brown bread character, minimal bitterness, some milk chocolate, faint earth. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Straightforward finish, just further toasted chocolate malts, faint toffee, light dirt. Pretty drinkable and all, just exceedingly one-dimensional.

Cask at the Gun winter BF, 31/01/14. Dark mahogony brown with a moderate beige had that dissipates quickly to edgework. Nose is light roast, earthy cocoa, toffee, slightly musty, brown bread. Taste comprises brown bread, earthy cocoa powder, swathes of dark maltings, slightly nutty tang, faint vanilla. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, smei drying close. Ok stout but not partucularly exciting.

On cask at the Guildford Arms. Appearance - opaque black with a nice crema head. Nose - roast and dark chocolate. Taste - deep chocolate flavour with just a hint of earthiness though I did have to look for it. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a fairly fresh finish. It does go a little thin though. Overall - a good stout even I’m struggling to find the English roots.

Cask at the Guildford. Dark brown pour, creamy off-white head. Earthy aromas, toffee and nuts. Slightly watery finish. Not bad.
