Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol, October 2013. I think I got a bad pint here. The caramel sweetness was heading in the direction of buttery, and the spiciness was muted. Not good.

Cask at the Square Bottle (JDW), Chester. Brown with a thick cream head. Rich toffee, some lemon and some crackly autumn leaves. Earthy bitterness to finish. A traditional, but indulgent-feeling English best bitter. One of the best I’ve had from this brewery.

Cask at the Bankers Draft, Bedford. Translucent brown. Takes a while to clear. Aroma is big on malt: chocolate, firewood, a bit musty. The taste is almost like a sweet stout, sweetness lingers throughout with bitter edges. For a brewery that usually do things by the book, this was a bit of a surprise.

Mahogany brown. Light cocoa and roasted malt in the aroma and taste. Some caramel too. Hop dryness comes through well in the finish.

Cask at the Moon Under Water (JDW), Watford on 17 October. Poured a clear dark chestnut with a medium rocky, off-white head. Aroma of caramel, prunes and earthy notes. Initial flavours of grassy hops, cereal and some treacle. Palate turns super bitter, without balance, just pine resin and copper. I do find St Peters beers to be very hit and miss... this being in the latter camp.

Cask @ The Foot of the Walk, Leith [281013]
Caramel brown, clear, off white tight head
Aroma of caramel malts, soft fruity toffee
Taste of caramel, some toasted malts, brown bread, brown bitter malts, some earthy english hops, touch spicy
Palate - Medium body. Finish - bitter english hops, toasted malt, long bitter metallic tail, too twiggy bitter
Overall - The over bitter quite metallic finish spoils this beer. Prob the same cask as what Craig had earlier looking at his reviiew below....

Cask at the Willow Walk, JDW - London. Pours clear, deep amber with a frothy, off-white head. The nose has toasty malts and dried, tangy fruts. Light sweet flavor with tangy berries, toasty bread, mellow leafy bitterness, soft cocoa. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Finishes with tabgy, semi-dark malts, more berries, bitter cocoa. Interesting beer. (3.3)

Cask at Baxter’s Court, JDW - Hackney, London. Pours clear copper with a creamy, off-white head. Nose holds toasty bread and light toffee. Light to medium sweet flavor with dry brown bread, mellow toffee, faint earthy bitterness and a bit of chalky cocoa. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Balanced finish of earth, toast and leathery fruits. Fair play. (3.4)
