We usually do not make compromises, but this is probably the exception. Norwegians are dead scared of dark beers. This is an attempt to show that there are gentle dark ales. As such Havre Stout is smooth and drinkable.

We think Havre Stout is good both with and in food. Try pairing it with a read meet dish, or give your vanilla icecream a small dash before serving. Recommended serving temperature 8°C/45°F.

11°P 20 IBU 4,5% ABV.

Bottle. Black colour with a tan head. Roasted malt, vanilla and coffe aroma. Well blended flavour with roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla and coffe. One of the best grocery store (in Norway) beer from the power station.

Bottle from Alesela
Black..ruby edges...frothy tan head
Aroma of roasted malt...chocolate....light burnt crust.....rather light
Taste - light roasted malts...dark malts...hint of chocolate.... very light coffee roast...light bitter hops...bit woody...mild flavour for a stout
Palate - medium carb - bit overcarb in bottle...thin body...texture slightly creamy. Finish as main flavour....not lingering.....rather plain
Overall - This is a subtle easy drinking stout. The flavours are good but they are bit away in the distance (which was a little frustrating as they make really good beers) and the body is a rather thin. It tastes more like a beer at 4% abv.

Keg at the Rake. It pours darkest brown, with ruby highlights and a thin tan light head. The nose is caramel, toffee, roasted malt, rubber and leather. The taste is caramel, toffee, light roast, filter coffee, charcoal, treacle, burnt tire and rubber, with a dry-roasted malt finish. Thin to medium body and fine carbonation. A bit too thin for me.

50cl bottle. Pours an opaque black with a brown creamy head which falls away to a thin layer of lace after 5 minutes. The nose is interesting - some toasted malt, smokiness, just a hint of chocolate and with a fresh pine note going through it. The taste is like a smokey hot chocolate with the pine zing just enough to balance it. The palate is rich in structure, there is a big and creamy texture in the middle section and a lovely clean finish. Overall, yes, he has nailed yet another style very well.

Tastes like the bottom of an old shoe.. both cold and a bit warmer. And no, I haven’t tasted the bottom of an old shoe.

Bottle from K-Citymarket Sello. Originally rated on 5.9.2009. Great aroma but taste is too light and unbalanced.

05/07/2011 Brasserie 4:20 (tap).

Sampled on tap at Brouwer's Cafe, pours cloudy dark reddish brown. Aroma of roasted malt, sour fruits and wood. Flavour is quite stale malts, some roastiness and sour / tangy fruits. Doesn't strike me as a stout at all - maybe a porter gone off or something. Not so great, but decent.
