18 cl bottle A home. Red-brown color. No head to speak of. Aroma’s: wood, boozy, sour fruit, with sweetness (sweet fruit) and bourbon & vanilla retronasal. Flavor is sweet, toffee-ish. Full bodied, thick mouthfeel, but alcohol feel isn’t that strong. Medium carbonation. Long finish with dried fruit and some wood. Nice nightcap.

Picked up at the bottle shop at De Molen many manny months back. The tiny clear red waxed 18cl bottle, bottle number 760, pours with a headless clear amber body that has easy on the eyes red ruby hues. The aroma is super jazzed with brown sugar simmered prunes, dates and ripe cherries rolling into earthy musty molasses covered spicy oak and then some booze at the end of the draw. Outstanding! The taste is rich and starting out with prune and date like sweetness and getting cherry and earthy before muted molasses infused spicy oak joins in the fun. Excellent BA barleywine.

Bottle, thanks to Bruce at THE Barley Wine Tasting, August 2012. It pours deep brown, with pretty much no head. The nose is light spice, honey, booze, caramel, buttery toffee (like Werther’s Original) and sweet banoffie pie. The taste is brown sugar, caramel, wood, sweet toffee apple, cake, hot cross buns, Scottish tablet, booze and somewhat vinous aspect, with a sweet, warming finish. Full body, fine carbonation and sticky mouth-feel. You can’t deny this has a depth of flavour and a good deal of complexity. However to try and cover up that alcohol this is also super-sweet. A sipper for sure....

drank by a bottle ( number somewhere around 1140 i think) 18 cl at kulminator. highley recomended, so high expectations on this one. pours red with a nice foam. not red like rodenbach, or something like that. its a bit between a brown ( double) beer and red. smell is just pure bourbon to me . i realy dont like it, but normaly BA’s are no problem for me. the scent on this one made it very hard for me just to drink this one... after struggeling for ceveral minutes i finaly tasted it.it was the right warmth ( 12-13 ° C ) wich this beer realy needs, it has a certain ( warmth’ than that goes so well with the beer, it just goes in very, very smooth ! like a shark knife in melting butter ! the taste is just.. liquid caramel, mixed with bourbon or womething? the bourbon in the taste was rather less than the scent, but came back in the aftertaste. i can tell this beer is very nice made, and i understand in many peoples opinion i gave this one a to low rating. but its just i realy dont like bourbon, and is this one aged or mixed? tastewise definatly muxed i’d say ! and caramel is just one of the tastes i absolutley hate! lucky for me this was a small bottle and went in smooth ... rerate ; bottle 1042 wow , i guess tastepalates change . Or i had a bad bottle before ? This one’s realy full , sweet, vanilla , oaky , bourbon . actualy, i realy , realy like this one . feeling like a 4,4 medium taken at 4 , since i trust my taste more now, than back than . Had sides by sides with wooden hell , and this one was equaly good .

On draft @ HaandBryggeriet Beer festival 2012. An amber body with a small off-white head. Strong aroma of dry fruit, caramel malt and warming alcohol. Flavor is sweet, really sweet malt, dry fruit particular raisins, vanilla and burning alcohol. Full body and looong aftertaste with the same flavor. Fantastic BIG beer, even being this sweet the alcohol and bitterness seems to create some kind of balance. The bitterness is almost not notable, but it just has to be there. Amazing and wonderful.

18cl bottle thanks to Colin. Hazy reddish color, almost no head. Smell malts, clearly bourbon BA. Taste malts, slightly caramel, lightly sweetish alcohol and again clearly liquor. Medium to full carbo, medium to full body.

The cap, waxed, opens with no sound; it pours flat and oily, with no head. It has a very good malty aroma, with some toffee, mature wood, a touch of Bourbon vanilla; very British.
Full bodied, with round mouthfeel; very sweet malt flavor, with some caramel and butterscotch; the alcohol can just be perceived, but it’s well managed in this big beer; there are nice tones of Bourbon whiskey; quite remarkable for the lack of bitterness; hence the final is a bit too short. It has similarities with the classic Thomas Hardy’s Ale, with more vanilla and less character.
I appreciate mostly because I like sweet beers, but it lacks of depth.

Bottle from Bierkoning, Amsterdam consumed at my mums, Worcester 18.05.12 Pours almost ruby in colour (in this light), good clarity, no head. Huge amount of whisky on nose, in fact too much and it is already making me assume I will not like it. Meaty, sweet, thick, very alcoholic with fumes engulfing your mouth. Some tropical fruit, mango? Intetesting, very interesting, but not my thing I am afraid. A5 A4 T5 P3 Ov10 2.7

Bottle courtesy of Sebletitje. Pours dark wooden brown with a very small bubbly white head that quickly dissipates without leaving any trace. Smell is sweet with caramel, wood, alcohol, brazil nuts, bourbon, vanilla, prunes, raisins and hints of oxidation. Taste is very sweet with dark bread, dark honey, vanilla, bourbon, wood, caramel, hazelnuts, lemon zest and hints of minerals. Mouthfeel is smooth, tiny boozy and full bodied with almost no carbonation. Finish is sweet and tiny bitter with wood, vanilla, honey and bourbon.
