375 ml green "champagne" bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 12.0%. Cloudy dark reddish brown colour, big to moderate off-white to beige head. Strong and intense sweetish aroma of dark malts, brown sugar and caramel, hints of oak and fortified wine. The flavour is very sweet and malty, with the same elements as the aroma - but it barely escapes the "cloying" category by a partial balance of American hops (Nugget, Cascade and Centennial). Not an "easy drinking" beer, but who expects a barley wine to be? A great "sipping beer", on a day when your "sweet tooth" needs to be satisfied.

This pours a slightly hazy dark brown under a thin, fleeting off-white head. Deliciously complex aroma with lots of dried fruits, caramel, vanilla and on and on. The flavor is slightly sweet and well balanced and closely follows the aroma. Big and full bodied. Well Done.

0.375L bottle, thanks Roei and Natalie. A little murky brown colour with some reddish streaks, almost no head. amazingly complex aroma, each sniff bring out something different. Among them: dates, raisins, brown sugar, honey, vanila, sour bread, barnyard, earthy mushrooms and spiciness dominated suprisingly by black pepper. Complex flavour made of coffee, caramel, dried fruits, peach and nactarine. Hoppy bitterness and strong sourness overpowering the alcohol which is almost non noticable, light and subtle sweetness. Oily texture, suprisingly light body, and an extremely long sour and peachy aftertaste rounding off this excellent beer.

Bottle bought in Copenhagen. Pours brown and orange. It is good but nothing spectacular. Easy to drink for its alcohol content.

Draught at EBF 08. Clear chestnut with thin beige head. Ooh that’s quite strong, some liquorice. Quite syrupy, not sure it is suited to my palate. Bit too much dried liquorice for me.

(Bottle, BBE 14/08/11, at Pikkulintu on 2008-09-05) Ruby red. Clear. Hardly any head. Very malty nose, bit of Finnish Easter pudding aromas. Full bodied palate with little carbonation and some alcohol. Chocolate, bitterness, Finnish Easter pudding and bit of raisin in taste. Really good.

Unclear amber colour, off white head. Aroma has pine hops and soy sauce. Taste has pine hops, malts. Port flavours almost not present. A bit sweet.
