Bottle at Casey and Traci’s tasting 01-08-08, cheers you two for a great evening. Pours deep chesnut in colour with white/off white head difficult to tell. Nice fudgey aroma bit creamy with some loose sweet spirity wisps. Taste is toffee apple dipped in sherry or brandy this taste is brought to shuddering halt by the american hop onslaught. Some slick tangerine flavours and a slight numbness in the mouth finish things off, lovely.

330 ml bottle from Bottle Trek. Dark amber color with a few bubbles for head. Aroma is rather dark fruit, with a little roasted malt. A little raisin as the glass approaches the lips. Medium body with significant carbonation. Flavor is dark fruit and some fairly dark malt. Quite a bit of heat down the throat. Finish is smooth, and a bit woody - almost astringent - mildly bitter. No where near so cloying as most of the style.

Bottled, bought in Vejle. Hazy amber color, short head. Aroma of caramel malt, raisin, alcohol, some hop as well. Smooth clean taste of bitterness, caramel, raisin, alcohol. Not as sweet as some american barley wines, but it also lacks some body. Balance is quite nice though.

Pours reddish brown with minimal off white head that doesn’t last long at all. Aromas of malts, dark fruits, brown sugar and alcohol. Sweet alcoholic flavor. Lots of brown sugar and spices. Alcohol burn seems a bit much but still a good brew. Full body with minimal carbonation and a thick, sticky mouthfeel.

375ml bottle picked up at Ølbutikken and enjoyed with Arild and Finn A. on a hotel room in Copenhagen. Ring of nice bubbles on the surface of a clear mahogany body. Intense vinous aroma with black berries. More berries in flavour supported by dark malts and candy sugar, closing with tingling alcohol and a bitter touch. Full bodied (02.06.2008).

Bottle. Pour is a dingy brown with a bit of a head that dies down in short order. Aromas are of dark fruit, brown sugar and toffee. On th first sip, my thoughts are that there is just too much alcohol and it overpowers the rest of the flavors a bit. The dark fruit an sweet stickiness are there, but they are a little underpresented. There is a bit of a zing to it that is kind of nice, but it seems more like it is coming from the ABV than from any sort of flavoring. Mouthfeel is kind of sticky and oily. Not bad, but I’ve had much better barley wines.

Hardly any head. Deep hazy red body. Stale earthy sherry aroma. Dry-sweet stale ripe fruit and citric hops taste. Intensely sharp and strong alcohol heat. Dry chalky wooden alcohol aftertaste with citric hops. Didn’t really enjoy this much. (0.375l bottle at Ole_R’s.)

Pours with a small, foamy, off-white head covering a deep red-brown body. Good retention from the small head. Aroma of toffee, figs, raisins, congac, brown sugar, other alcohols, champagne, chocolate and even some coconut. Taste is a tad sour then strong alcohol and pitted fruits. The finish starts a bit astringent, then is a bit nutty and even smokey. The taste lasts in your mouth for a while. Very creamy and mouthcoating body with light bubbles. 12% is obvious in the taste.

Hazy deep brown coloured body with a nice frothy tan head. Aroma of super strong potent raisins, pit fruits and malt, with a bit of hops up top. Full-bodied; Strong malty flavour with potent alcohol and malt, a touch of yeast and pit fruits coming in with some spice as well. Aftertaste shows a good malt flavour and a small bit of hops as well. Overall, a good barley wine, but definitely nothing special - good to try though! I sampled this 37.5 cL split bottle purchased from Plumpjack Wines in San Francisco (Mission), California on 24-May-2008.
