Very dark pour, good sized beige head. Very earthy aroma, lots of licorice from the absinthe, and some light sweet roasted malts. Mouthfeel is good, and carb is spot on. A BiG earthy flavor, like a mouthfull of dirt. It lasts for about 2 seconds and then goes into some sweet roasted malts and more licorice. The dirt come back in the finish. I cant shake this dirt!!

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma is anise, chocolate, roasted malt. Taste is roasted malt, milk chocolate, absinthe, licorice, herbs, something burnt. Finishes sweet with lots of licorice/absinthe. Interesting, but likely wouldn't purchase again.

Ghosttown 6.6% an absinthe stout! A deep brown, almost black with ruby highlights and a filmy tan head. A roasty, nutty, cocoa browny-like aroma which is followed by aniseed absinthe notes - nice. Fairly full bodied and velvety smooth. The taste is complex: black patent malts, black licorice,  soft cocoa, lime, absinthe, coffee... each sip reveals something different. Freakily good.

Strange, but not bad. Pours pitch black with mocha head and lacing. Aroma of anise, some roast malt and some booze. Finishes with that note of bitter absinthe herb. Thick consistency. Tap at Gainsbourg.

On tap at Hivern’ale 2013. Aroma: Strong licorice accents with roasted coffee. Appearance: Black, small head and nice lacing. Taste: Licorice is coming back strongly and supported by roasted notes of coffee with touch of ash and a bit of smoke. Body is thin and texture watery. Acceptable beer.

A deep dark stout with a thick brown head. In aroma, bitter chocolate with loads of licorice,, rye bread, very nice. In mouth, a sweet powdery chocolate with light licorice, caraway, alcohol warmth, very nice. On tap at Hivern’ale, Jan 25 2012.

A deep dark stout with a thin dark moka head. A light licorice aroma, with chocolate and coffee. In mouth, Pernod meets a rich stout, with chocolate mint. A very happy mix. On tap at Mondiale 2009.

On tap (Gainsbourg): Poured a pitch black color stout with a nice light brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of absinthe is quite powerful with light roasted malt notes also discernable. Taste is a good mix between strong absinthe notes with some strong notes of anise and some good notes of roasted malt with light sweet finish. Body is about average with light creamy texture and no apparent alcohol. I really enjoyed the absinthe notes which are distinct but not necessarily overpowering.
2011 bottle rating - Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a super large light brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of spices and absinth is well mix between some roasted malt with light note of lactose. Taste is also very smooth with a nice mix of herbs and spices with some clear notes of absinth and a quite sweet lactose finish. Body is quite creamy and full with OK carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very well brewed with nice balance between the different ingredients.
