5th February 2011
Chelmsford Winter Beer Festival. Hazy very dark brown beer. Good pale tan head. Unpleasant nose of piss! Light dry palate. Fresh dark malt with a trace of coffee and chocolate. Some nice fruit coming up underneath. Slightly spicy dry finish with some hop bitterness rising. Dry bitter aftertaste. Decent tasty beer - shame about the awful snout on it!

Cask at the Euston Tap. Pours an opaque, dark brown with a modest, creamy tan head. Incredibly rich, bitter chocolate in the aroma, with some minerality and hard, roasted malts. Has a nice flavor, light to medium sweet, some bristly, band-aid, understated cocoa. Medium to strong in body with fine carbonation. Hard, medium roasted malt finish. Pretty good stuff.

Cask at the Southampton Arms on 25th January 2011. Black with thin dying head. Rich malty aroma. Biscuit and thick coffee and burnt malts in-mouth. Lasting rich, earthy malty and fruity bouquet in aftertaste with a citric tang, thick mouthfeel. Great!

Cask at the White Horse, Parsons Green, London. A black coloured pour with a small beige head. Nice sweet, malty aroma. Tastes of chocolate, hint of coffee, quite sweet, dark fruit, really smooth. Enjoyable porter.

Cask handpull at Cask Pub and Kitchen, Pimlico. Hazy dark brown red colour with thin lasting beige head. Lovely roast malt aroma. Oddly plastic flavour in the mouth. Not my favourite to be honest. Itdoes settle down into an intense dark roasted beer. Rather likeable even if I cant tell ypu why. Yes it has some interesting intense dark choc and dark fruit flavours. Some burnt perspex. Oddly likeable.
