This traditional pale ale is re-created to the original recipe, especially for this JDW beer festival. It is brewed with traditional ingredients which import a spicy, herbal tone in the palate and a surprising fullness of flavour for a beer of this strength.

Spoons Fest. Clear pale amber beer. Absoloutley no carbonation! Light nutty malt and a watery finish. Oh dear!

Cask @ Tennents Bar as Adnams Eat, Drink and Be Jolly. Dark orange colour, creamy off-white head. Nose is vegetables, burnt rubber, bit of fruits. Flavour is light malted, slightly hopped, burnt rubber. Slightly bitter finish. Not well at all.

cask ... slightly hazy amber ... thin white lacing ... light woood ... odd soft woody malt ... ligth hop ... very blah ... with grapefruit finish.

[Cask at the Monks Retreat, Reading] Pale amber, slight white head. Citrussy hops, with biscuit malt and minerals coming through. Grass and a hint of pepper in the dry finish. Quite reminiscent of their recent Adnams Extra. It seems that Adnams are moving away from their traditional rich malty ales towards paler hoppy ones. It’s a shame, for I have a great love of the Adnams malt, and feel that it would be a shame to see that flavour lost from the UK brewing scene. Nevertheless this is a decent, well balanced, refreshing ale, with a lot of flavour considering the low ABV.

Cask handpull at County Hotel, JDW, Ashford. Copper colour slight haze, thin beige head. Some sulphur on aroma, certainly something of the Burton about it. OK in mouth, good condition. Decent hop spritz on finish. REally quite bitter for this ABV. Decent Burton style bitter.

Cask-conditioned at the Savoy (JDW), Swindon 29/10/09. Pale amber in colour with next to no head. Plenty of grainy, slightly bready malts, some caramel and a vaguely spicy finish. Inoffensive.

Cask, gravity dispense, at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading. Amber in colour; sweet, grainy aroma; sweet and grainy flavours too, with some biscuity malt; lacking finish. Unsatisfying.
