This robust Yorkshire ale has been created using a mixture of amber malt and two types of oat malt. This delivers a full-bodied, moreish ale with a creamy head and slight sweetness. Fuggles and Goldings are in the hop mix, which adds to the overall taste. A traditional English hopped style beer.

This is a Timothy Taylor beer I’d not come across before, but they do seem to have been brewing it for a number of years. Anyway, cask at Borough Arms, Crewe. Pours bitter brown with a small white head. Not much of a nose – just some vague maltiness. Malts again in the mouth, where it is slightly sweet. Some floral hops and hints of oranges as well. Finiah is a little more bitter. Reasonable.

Handpull cask at the Town Hall Tavern, Leeds. Mid- to dark gold with a big off-white head. Light malty aroma with some grassy notes. Sweet taste with a herbal taste and some salted caramel. Bitterness overtakes the initial sweetness with an intensity far outlasted the long finish. This is a great ESB.

Live rate on 16th June 2015 while cooking a minced beef chilli after cutting the lawns and walking the dog: this is my reward to myself. Tangerine orange body, not quite fully clear when poured into my Abbot Ale glass tankard. The head is deep and full, off-white blanket of uneven foam which appears to be lasting. Malt lead in both the aroma and taste, semi-sweet initially with toffee and caramel hints, grapefruit flavour mid-sip, with a dry hoppy finish that seems to have a peppery and metallic twang to it. All good apart from the finish: what a shame. Bought from B&M Bargains, so cost cock all but my score is lower because of that metallic like feel in the finish.

50cl bottle from Tesco, Aldershot. Amber with a tight white head; grassy malt aroma; caramel taste with some grain; and a pleasant bitterness to follow, leaving a dry toasty finish. A satisfying Yorkshire bitter.

Bottle from local offy. Golden, with a thick, white, lasting head. Biscuit, light caramel, citric fruit zest. Some pine wood. Taste is light sweet, with a light, burnt bitterness. Nice, easy drinker.

Bottled. A golden beer with a lazing off-white head. The aroma is sweet with notes of spices, malt, and peaches. The falvor is sweet matly with notes of caramel cinnamon and elderberries, leading to a dry bitter finish.

(Bottle 50 cl) Courtesy of Ungstrup. Clear, deep golden with a creamy, white head leaving some laces. Slightly unclean, nutty nose. Medium body with lightly sweet, roasted and nutty accents. Subdued bitterness. 201107
