Pregnant smak, karakterfull.

Bottle, 2nd Tuesday Tasting @ De Molen. Black colour, medium brown head. Nose is roasted malts, coffee, light whisky, maybe a hint of tobacco. Flavour is roasted malts, quite sweet, coffee, whisky and fairly alcoholic. Finish has a fairly strong alcohol burn. This is for slow sipping.

Bottle at the De Molen second Tuesday tasting, April 2013. Poured a deep crude oil black colour with an oily consistency and a thin tan head. The aroma is rich, with red fruits and lots of alcohol. The flavour is very intense with lots of bitter alcohol, liquorice and fruit. It’s a hugely rich beer and has one of the most complex flavours I’ve ever tasted. The bitterness lingers for quite some time in the aftertaste, just to let you know it’s still there. It’s a huge man mountain of a beer!

Bottle shared at Denk’s monthly tasting at De Molen. Pours black with a small beige head. Aroma of tar, earth, roasted malts, licorice, light molasses, dark chocolate, light coffee, leather, tobacco and caramel. There’s a lot going on here. Flavour is heavy sweet and moderate bitter, with a massive sweet alcohol warmth (almost burn) in the finish. Full bodied with soft carbonation.

375 ml. bottle. Bottled on 15/07/2009. Mmm… this is not white wax that is on the bottle but plastic… Pours black – obviously – with surprising amount of mocha head – okay stability considering the ABV. Bottle says that the carbonation level is medium which is I assume an euphemism for flat. Good quality alcohol dominates in the nose, enjoyable thick licorice, black chocolate, rich but alcohol is foremost and of exceptional quality. Velvety rich, thick licorice in the taste, light ash, strong roast, pitch black chocolate, fine spirit is far more in the back and tuned down, still warming and alcoholic, overripe dark fruits marinated in fine spirit, light ashes,… Velvety, very, very slick, little carbonation. I am still amazed just how much better the BA Black’s are than the original.

Bottle at home. Has a black colour with a medium brown, pretty compact, head. Beautiful concentrated aroma where I find port, black berries, leather, dark chocolate and some alcohol. Heavy flavours of roast, coffee, black berries, dark chocolate and some smoke. Soft and slick mouthfeel. Bitterness = medium+. Wow, what a nice mix of whisky and stout in this beer. Nice roasted touch as well.
