Bottle 0,33ltr: Hazy blonde colored brew with a lot of carbonation, big foamy head. Taste is sweet bitter with hints of sweet fruits and sharp fruits. This is an very good First World War beer i have tried.

Bottle from Spar, Ostend. Clear orange, stable, frothy, off-white head. Aroma of apple sauce (and lots of it), carrot, pear, apricot, white pepper, solvent, ginger, banana. Taste has sweet apple sauce (again), pear & unripe banana over a bready-doughy malty base with phenolic spicy accents in the back. Floral hoppy finish, estery ripe fruits, warming wodka alcohol (feeling a bit out of place). Medium body, oily texture, fizzy carbonation. Ironically, it'll be hard to remember '14-'18 if you drink too many of these Remembrance Beers. Feels uninspired unless you're up for some apple sauce.

33cl bottle; BB 11th Dec 2021. Poured into an old 'Chimay' chalice at home on 16th Feb 2020. Slight haze, I allowed the sediment/grist to leave the bottle; rocky white blanket of foam on top. Old gold in colour with a yeasty aroma that also held some herbal and fruity notes. Malty front to the taste, semi-sweet molasses battle with the yeastiness and hop bitterness. Boozy finish, it creeps up on you!

One of several beers made here and there in Belgium during the past four years intended to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of World War I (“lest we forget”, as the front label on this one says). Bottle from Willems in Grobbendonk. Medium thick, frothy, snow white, intricately cobweb-lacing, moussy head over a lightly hazy ‘old gold’ coloured beer, warm with a pale orangey tinge and fierce sparkling; misty with sediment as expected and intended. Aroma of raw parsnip and turnip, strong wodka-like booze even to a near-solventy effect, bubblegum, banana, peach, unripe pear, baking soda, moist white pepper, some onsetting ‘rusty’ oxidation. Sweetish onset mostly due to strong isoamylacetate (banana ester), note of green apple, peach and pear with a sourish note, very fizzy carbonation distracting a bit from the actual flavour; bit doughy, cereally white-bready malt body but dryish, not hindered by over-the-top residual sugary sweetness. Coriander and mild phenolic spicy notes in the end with a dash of floral hops but, more than anything, followed by a lot of ‘jenever’-like, heating, eventually slightly burning alcohol. Harshly boozy, this beer is clearly stronger in ABV than its own body can carry – and collapses a bit under it as a result. Other than that, this is a worn-out Belgian tripel recipe, executed too thin and ‘understuffed’. Far less memorable than it intends to be, I’m afraid… Nice label, though.

Gott.

Bottle from Beer Souvenir Palace, Brugge. Cloudy amber with a thick bubbly-frothy head. Certainly strong, but it has a dominant, slightly stewed tropical fruitiness in both its aroma and taste. Has a light to medium bitterness.

Clear, golden. Has a fairly malty flavour. Smooth tasting. Quite a sweet finish. Quite like a Tripel. Pleasant.
