Imperial Stout Oatmeal Stout with Kopi Luwak Coffee. Released January 2015.

This beer is the culmination of the efforts of two world-class brewers to create the most vitalizing coffee stout in the world. AleSmith and good friend Mikkeller join forces, blending the legendary Speedway Stout and Beer Geek Brunch Weasel together into one massive Imperial Oatmeal Stout with enough coffee and oats to substitute for your weekend brunch.

A beer of this magnitude requires a robust coffee with enough backbone to compliment the roasty and dark malt flavors; Kopi Luwak Coffee is the perfect choice. These coveted coffee beans are selected for their ripeness and quality by the Indonesian Palm Civet, a jungle marsupial that devours the fruit of the coffee cherry. The beans are then gathered from jungle floors, washed, sun-dried, and roasted. This smooth and aromatic stout is seriously good to the last dropping.

750ml bottle pours a thick black with plenty of creamy, tan head. Nose has malt, licorice, molasses, mild chocolate, mild coffee, yeast. Flavor is an easy blend of coffee, brown sugar, malt, molasses, mild chocolate. Full bodied but really easy to drink.

Thanks to Jeff for sending this to a tasting. Black of course. A thick and rich coffee stout, with lots of sweet malt balancing the bitter coffee. Heavy, rich palate.

Bottle shared by Jeff, thanks! Pours black with a dark brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has musty dark grains, roasted malts and some earthy coffee notes. Flavor combines dark grain, roasted malts and an earthy coffee note to perfection.

750mL shared by McBerko. Pours with strong brown head, black head. I had fearful thoughts of an over the top beer but it’s not. Aroma is slightly sweet cocoa, faint acidic coffee, and pretty light actually. Flavor similar, not sweet, a dry roast, light acidity, and finishes with a bit of light sweetness. A sprinkled carbonation. Leaves a dry and lightly acidic aftertaste.

750 mL bottle poured, shared by mcberko. Thanks! Pours jet black with a thick tan foam head. Lighter than expected fresh coffee aroma. Very smooth, thick, creamy coffee flavor. Touch of vanilla and coffee bean filled finish. Overall a delicious stout. Very well done.
