This dangerously drinkable garnet beauty is a hop lover’s delight. The intense dry-hop nose and the alcohol content are perfectly balanced for a caramel malt backbone. This is a serious beer for serious beer aficionados. Oink!

Truly one of the easiest to drink barleywines out there. Beautiful maroon pour with an off white head that lasted a short while. Aroma is of butterscotch, dark fruit, and dank hops. Taste is similar to the aroma with the addition of a salty flavor.

Clear dark red - amber beer. Decent off white head. Light, soft and semi dry palate. Toffee caramel malt - well salted! The hops kick in towards the end - a little spicy bitter orange. Tongue tingling finish. Not bad - just a little rough edged.

Bottle from my secret Santa, many thanks. Hazy amber color with medium beige head. Aroma of floral hops, grapefruit, oranges, honey, pines. Taste, grapefruit, mango, caramel, lemon zest, honey. Long strong bitter finish. Strong alcoholic feeling. Nice barley wine.

Keg at Brouwerij Lane with Seth. Part of a barley wine tasting. Pours bright ruby, mostly clear, with a fine, creamy head. Piney hops in the nose, some sweat and caramel. Medium to big sweet flavor, pine, toast, sweet bread, caramel and toffee. Medium to full in body with fine to average carbonation. Some grassy bitterness in the finish, very sweet, with lingering pine and caramel. Almost like a very sweet DIPA. Nice.

I’m pretty certain I had this one back in 2005 or 2006, but haven’t had the chance (or memory) to buy it again until now. Poured a slightly cloudy dark orange/light brown color (relatively translucent, even with the cloudy body). Aroma was so heavy on the pine I was almost certain this couldn’t have been the beer that they described on the bottle. This one is hopped about like I like my beers - the malt wasn’t overpowering, and it was not sickly sweet like I find a ton of barleywines to be. May make it into my semi-normal rotation.

Draft courtesy of the Churchkey crew, thanks! Cloudy golden brown color, decent lacing. Shocking pine aroma, a pleasant surprise when I was expecting a barleywine. Taste is bittersweet. Nice variation on a theme.
