Since the start of the craft brewing movement in the US 25 years ago and the reinvention of the IPA style, American craft brewers have challenged hop producers to create new and innovative styles of hops to take their beers to the next level. Over the past few years German brewers have taken up the charge and have been encouraging local hop farmers to continue this work. The Stone 2nd Anniversary Double IPA celebrates the second year of our Berlin brewery by blending eight new German hop varieties to create deliciously bitter and juicy double IPA.

Tap @ Både &. Slightly unclear golden body with a small, dense white head. Aroma distinct malt and hops in typical Stone tradition, but seems to not be particular fresh, some ripe fruit and cellar notes actually. Flavor is quite sweet malt, moderate hop flavor and not much bitterness, some resin and actually hint of alcohol with a sharp and slightly harsh bitterness in aftertaste. Kind of typical Stone but far from Stone at its best.

Fat Biskoppens vapen Växjö. Ljus guldfärgad medelgrummlig. I munnen då?

Can picked up from Dranken Geers, Oostakker, Gent, Belgium. Consumed at home Attenkirchen, Bavaria, Monday 18th March 2019. Pours hazy warm gold with a large white head. Much like the Gregarious Nature this has big punchy hops with piney resin and some tropical flavours, I get canteloupe melon, some pepper, warmth from the abv. Another impressive IPA from Stone Berlin or actually DIPA to be more typical US style maltiness.

Tap@Skaal, Copenhagen - light hazy golden coloured pour with a white head. Sweet fruity with some notes of grapefruit and orange, solid sweet malty backbone with some notes of caramel, toffee, medium body, resinous hoppy bitter finish. Lovely stuff.

15/II/19 - 50cl can from Geers (Oostakker), shared @ home, BB: 12/IV/19, canned: 13/XI/18 - (2019-225)

Clear orange to blond beer, small irregular creamy off-white head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: malty, grains, some citrus, floral, bubble gum, bit chemical, orange peel, bit dank, cheesy, diesel, soapy. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: lots of cough syrup, more orange peel, unpleasant soapy taste, bad. Aftertaste: very bitter, unpleasant, cough syrup, more orange peel, sweet and sugary, very malty, pretty bad for an IPA. Quite the disappointing birthday IPA.
