Since the start of the craft brewing movement in the US 25 years ago and the reinvention of the IPA style, American craft brewers have challenged hop producers to create new and innovative styles of hops to take their beers to the next level. Over the past few years German brewers have taken up the charge and have been encouraging local hop farmers to continue this work. The Stone 2nd Anniversary Double IPA celebrates the second year of our Berlin brewery by blending eight new German hop varieties to create deliciously bitter and juicy double IPA.

50cl can from the source, thx Tomi. Poured clear golden color with a thick dense white head. Grapefruity nose, resin, citrusy hops and malts. Nice bitterness, grapefruit, some resin, ripe fruits. Long bitter finish, slight sweetness perhaps. Solid.

0.5l can. Hazy golden orange, white head. Aroma of citrus fruits, melon, resin. Taste is fruity, citrus, mandarin, melon, apricot, pithy, bitter and resinous finish. Medium body, soft carbonation. Nice but expected a little more. Curiously the website names 5 hops, the description says they use 8, can says 9, not sure they know what's gone into this beer.

Draft. A hazy golden beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma has notes of hops, spices, malt, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, fruits, and hops, leading to a bitter finish.

31st December 2018 Can. Light haze on this gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Smooth palate, semi dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Soft malts, just a very light sweetness. A spicy bitter kick off. Smooth pine, a little floral. Bitter citrus and citrus peel. A whisper of something Sorachi like, well buried. Green hop bitterness. A bare whisper of something tropical. A smooth and bitterish spicy finish. There are 9 German hops in this beer which the can waxes lyrical about, it just doesn't bother to tell us what they are! Any which way, I think Stone Berlin have a way to go to get the best out of hops, for me anyway. That said, this is still decent.

50 cl can @ Timo A
Aroma has strong fruit juice tones and mild plastic vibes. Flavour has grapefruit, sweet fruit juice tones and cereal. Finishes with herbal hops and menthol-like hop burn.

Keg at Fierce Bar. It pours hazy orange with a medium white head. The aroma is soft, oily, sweet, sponge cake, weedy, onions, orange marmalade, grapefruit and kumquat. The taste is bitter - sweet, oily, sticky, boozy, apricot, persimmon, ripe stone fruits, citrus peel, boozy, sticky, floury bread, weedy, grainy and a bit of spice with a drying finish. Medium - full body and fine carbonation. Sticky and sweet. Not hugely drinkable, but interesting enough.

Hazy golden. Aroma is peach, hay, apricot, some hints of black pepper. Taste is very mealy bitter hops and only a little fruitiness, some dish water sadly. Also sticky and a bit too much alcohol warmth. Leaves a trace of pepper spicyness. Meh.

0.5 can in Munich. Hazy yellow pour, nice fruity nose. Not as overly bitter as many Stone beers but the bitterness does linger. Piney fruit, dank with Japanese black pepper notes. I prefer it to most Stone beers I've tried.
