This new, ruby-coloured ale has been brewed exclusively for this Wetherspoon real-ale festival – a celebration of our 40th birthday… from one of our original suppliers. It has a rich, malty flavour, with its generous blend of traditional English hops providing an excellent balance and clean bitterness in the finish.

Hops: First Gold, Fuggles, Goldings

Cask at Picture House, Stafford. Pours a dark copper with a small off-white head and good lacing. Malts predominate in the aroma plus some traces of treacle. There’s a creamy texture in the mouth with malts again to the fore along with grains and toffee and just a hint of alcoholic strength. A decent enough ESB.

[Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading.] A bright golden amber pour with a scummy looking beige head; aroma of purple fruit; sweet and syrupy in the mouth with berry and plum flavours; then a raisin finish with an underlying hedgerow bitterness and lingering caramel.

22nd Oct 2019: hand-pulled pint in my local Wetherspoon's. Clean and clear light ruby body, tight and smooth off-white head. Malty front, yet fairly bitter in nature, not as balanced as their 'normal' Abbot Ale.
