Stone Sanctimonious IPA represents the elevated state of reverence that Stone extols for the venerable and almighty Hop. Amarillo & Simcoe hops have been anointed to bestow their divine qualities on this sacred brew. This limited release is part of Stone's Hop Worship Seasonal IPA Series... Glory be to those who imbibe it in its freshest form... and faithfully worship thy Hop in the beauty of blissful bitterness.

Our third Stone Hop Worship Series release goes back to two of our favorite “retro” hops: Amarillo and Simcoe. These hops really aren’t that old as their development only goes back to the late 90s/early 2000s but with all the innovation out in the hop world, they seem like they’ve been around for a while. Sometimes taking a step back and appreciating what we already have is another form of innovation. These hops combine for a myriad of cool hop aromas and flavors including old school West Coast IPA attributes along with new school tropical qualities. It’s a perfect way to end the year’s Hop Worship Series.

Very nice IPA from Stone, focused more on citrus and dank, piney resin than their recent crop of tropical fruit salad IPAs. Mild bready malts add a touch of sweetness to the base, while the lingering moderate bitterness is a welcome change from the gentle finish of hazy IPAs. Not earth-shattering, but damn well worth a six-pack. Tasty.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 10/5/2018. Pours crystal clear medium golden/amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berries, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, wood, pine, cracker, lightly toasted biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berries, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, wood, pine, cracker, lightly toasted biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berries, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, wood, pine, cracker, lightly toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy/sticky, and fairly crisp/resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is fantastic. Zero warming alcohol for 7%. Overall this is an incredible IPA. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and easy to drink with the moderately bitter/resinous/drying finish, not overly aggressive. Amazing Simcoe/Amarillo profile. Extremely juicy, vibrant, dank, and earthy balance hop complexity; nice bready malt backbone, with no residual sweetness from crisp/resin dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and amazing West Coast style example. Best of the hop worship series so far.

Can from Craft Brewed. Pours a clear gold with a finger of foam that lingers. Floral hop aromas with honeysuckle, grapefruit, butterscotch and light durian notes. Crisp and clean on the palate. Crackery malt with a pithy, peppry bitterness that lingers. Finish has strong pink peppercorn notes. Not bad, but doesn't really do much for me. Stone can do better.

12oz can. Filtered orange-tan body below a foamy white head. Solid, sort of classic California IPA. Filtration keeps it nice and drinkable, the Amarillo ups the Simcoes bitter edge. Quite sessionable for the ABV, which is 7.2% not 7.0%....this is the Hop Worship series not a pilot batch.

Canned September 29th, enjoy by January 27th 2019.

Medium clear gold colour, nice head of foam, above average lacing.

Bitter grapefruit and dank smell, hints of tropical fruit, onions, toasted malt.

Tropical fruit (mango), grapefruit, quite dank, toasted malt, very flavourful.

Great mouthfeel, really delicious west coast IPA.

Keg at IMBC. It pours clear golden to amber with a medium foamy white head. The aroma is bitter - sweet, oily, biscuit, sponge cake, grapefruit, lemongrass and icing sugar. The taste is dry, crisp, bitter, grassy, straw, grapefruit, pithy, zingy, peppery spice, lemongrass, cakey malts, biscuit some rawness and alcohol.. Medium body and moderate, prickly carbonation. Punchy. OK.

Keg at IMBC 2018, session 4. Pours totally clear gold with a tight, creamy head. Nice West Coast gear, some piney bitterness, ripening tangerine, grapefruit, general citrus rind. Medium to full bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Warming booze in the close, piney resin, bitter grass, more citrus fruits. Good stuff.

Keg at the indy man beer con, session 4. A clear deep orange coloured pour with a lasting white head. Aroma is semi sweet toffee, pine and orange. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, biscuity, toffee, piney grassy hop, sticky hop light weed. Palate is semi sweet, sticky hop, moderate carbonation.. Solid ipa.
