Tumma, kuivahko pohjahiivalla käytetty olut jossa tuntuu vahva savun tuoksu ja maku. Oluen valmistuksessa käytetyt maltaat on kuivattu ikivanhaa perinnettä noudattaen avotulen yllä, pyökin savussa.

Black color. The aroma has a medium strength, a good mix of dark caramel and smoke, and some chocolate. The body is lean, not too strong initially but getting a bit bolder later; the flavor is dominated by the chocolate, with some caramel and smoke, and just some residual sweetness. Correct bitterness. Well brewed and pleasant.

(Bottle. Thanks to SaintMatty) Very dark colour, almost black with ruby hints when seen through light. Frothy, beige head. Smoky, roasted nose with notes of roasted malt, ashes, dark chocolate, dark bread and lots of smoke. Roasted, malty taste with dark chocolate, dark rye bread, smoked ham and toasted grain. Medium body, rather dry with a mild coffee bitterness in the finish. Smoke is more prominent in the aroma than in the flavour. Well balanced and tasty smoked beer.

500 ml bottle sampled@RBNAG 2009, Vatlandsvåg. Black body with a small, dense and diminishing beige head. Aroma of smoked malt, coffee, bullion and dry meat. Flavor is sweet, smoked malt, leather, tar and a hint of roasted bacon. Moderate bitter and relatively light body concerning all the present flavors. A bit unusually and interesting, nothing unpleasant, but not very balanced and not totally successfully either.

Bottle, courtesy of fonefan. A clear, dark reddish brown beer topped by a small beige head. Smoked, heavily roasted and slightly smoke-sour aroma. Smoked, meaty and roasted flavor slightly resembling cured sausages. Full-bodied, nicely carbonated and quite dry. Roasted-bitter finish. A quite likable beer, but nothing to drink all day. Rating: 7-4-7-4-14-3.6. 090822
Bottle, RBNAG-09. A dark, dark brown beer with a diminishing tan head. Smoked nose with cured meat, burnt malts and beefstock. Very meaty. Tar, peat and cured sausages in the mouth, quite beefstock-like in many ways. Full-bodied and dry, finishing more or less like the initial flavor, with some roasted bitterness. Maybe too much, but I like it. Rating: 6-4-6-4-12-3.2. Adjusted the rating to something in between my two ratings. 091107

Bottle, RBNAG 2009 in Vatlandsvåg. Dark brown colour, nearly black, low head. Strange aroma and flavour of smoked beef, peat and tar. The flavour has also some roastiness and a very moderate sweetness.

Bottle. The beer had a very dark color, not really pitch black but still very black. The foam was dirty and not too large, disappeared quickly. The aroma was quite nice smoky, tree and smoked ham. Thought also that somewhere in the background there was a aroma that reminded a bit of sour milk. The flavor contained some sweetness, bacon, salt, smoked malt and a little tar. Mouth feel was at the creamy side, the smoked taste was mild. Not too advanced but pleasant to drink.

50cl bottle. Almost black, with a nice, beige head. Smell of smoked meat and wood, very well balanced. Comes quite close to Schlenkerlas Rauchbier in taste IMHO.
