Hopzilla is a monster of an IPA that will make you pucker up! Loaded with high-alpha U.S. grown hops, this brawny dry hopped ale will terrorize your taste buds, yet has enough malt backbone to balance a fierce bitterness.

Reviewed from notes.
Can to tulip.
Appearance: murky brown color with a finger's worth of white foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some messy lace
Aroma: grapefruit, pine & orange rind; some clean bready to caramel-like malts
Flavor: meshes the prior noted aromas to a fine bittersweet quality and adds in a touch of sugars; finishes with the grapefruit, pine and orange rind
Texture: medium bodied, leaning to being a sipper; light smoothness with some sticky hops; light hop assertiveness
Overall; okay DIPA that seems a bit stiff to possibly be a West coast styled one. Maybe I could come back to.

This is an excellent West Coaster. Pine, grapefruit. Big bitter end. Great stuff. Kickin' ass. Pours copper golden with decent head. Tap at Snally.

Canned 1/5/22, drunk 1/20/22. Clear, medium copper-to-deep honey-amber. Off-white head atop is frothy, slowly receding to half a finger. Getting a lot of pine, lemon, black tea and yet some softer toffee, caramel and cake. But it's not iced tea or scratchy, gross caramel malt character, importantly. Hops are C-forward yet not obnoxiously resinous or grapefruit rind-heavy. Soft, succulent, and full of butter toffee and sweet cream with hop bitterness quickly picking up to easily balance. Along the lines of West Coast IPAs, this is a good one, though I don't love the relative lack of hop complexity that is the hallmark of West Coast IPAs. Grapefruit, orange, lemon, black tea, pine. That's always about it. The malt is soft and round and comforting, but the bitterness is still severe. Fine for what it is, even if I hate WC IPAs.

Can from the Packie. Deep gold with a slight haze and a tint of orange with a small tightly bubbled white head that persists. Solid bready faint toasty maltiness with a solid wallop of pine and earth with bits of grapefruit and orange. Oh how I miss IPA's with actual hop flavor and bitterness.

Taster pour on tap at NH Brewfest. Appearance is deeply hazy light brown-dark yellow, trace sparkle and thin ring of off-white head. Aroma is grapefruit-pine-citrus bitterness though underlying sweet fruit and caramel/bready malt. Taste is a grapefruit and pine moderate bitter bite with slight citrus, balanced by the sweet malt and a hint of herb. Mouthfeel is light-to-medium bodied with thin, frothy texture, average carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, more bitter piney than I'd like but strong flavors, aroma decent balance. Quite good, especially those liking beers that are more bitter, but not transcendent. 3.8ish.

Tap. Blue Stone, Montpellier, VT. Glowing gold. Light haze. Super sturdy, fully lacing, lasting, white foam. Great looking beer. Nose has candied peel and sappy pine. Clean malts. Some minty herb. Taste has a sticky sweetness, followed up with a nicely bitter, resinous goo. Medium body. Lip sticking. Soft carbonation. Lingering, moderate bitterness to finish. Great stuff.

A touch hazy golden and peach coloured body with a nice, two to three centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of resin, grapefruit, pine and a lot of alpha acids with some good bitterness, but a solid malt backbone and even more pungent alcohol bite and astringency at the end. Medium-bodied; Strong rich piney and grapefruit flavours at first with a lot of the hop notes coming through and a good bitterness throughout, with some resin and honey sweetness towards the end, but all with a respectable and balanced malt backbone and alcohol complexity. Aftertaste shows mostly the hop bitterness and profiles, with the grapefruit and pine the strongest by far, but some balanced sweetness and a strong, but enjoyable alcohol and astringent bite at the very end make this feel like an Imperial IPA. Overall, a nice and balanced Imperial IPA with a lot of hop bitterness, but character (more importantly), and a balanced and smooth malt profile, all with a long-lasting and nice finish. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from The Beer Store in Franklin Mills (Philadelphia), Pennslyavania on 05-October-2019 for US$5,99 sampled at home in Washington on 07-November-2019.

Can, from Beer Run. Pours clear dark golden with large foamy light beige head, resinous aroma, low carbonation, medium bitter resinous taste, well balanced smooth body, long finish. Incredibly smooth for a DIPA.
