tasted with the Black Hole Peat Whiskey Barrel
The color is respectful of the name; it has a dense brownish head.
The aroma is not very strong; in the beginning it reminds me the Mikkeller beers of a few years ago; there is malt, some roasted malt, a light but faboulous trace of freshly brewed Italian coffee, and a very light idea of wine distillate. For once, a Mikkeller beer that wins with elegance and not with power.
Strong body, rounder than the Peat Whiskey Barrel; the mouthfeel is quite smooth; there is a strong flavor of roasted malts, with a light acidity (probably coming from the barrel); the alcohol is too much evident. Some liquorice too in the end.
The character of roasted and burnt malt is too strong, and so the alcohol.

375mL bottle, split with Matts_Property, pours black with a small tan head. Deep, dark aroma of dark fruits, licorice, vanilla, chocolate, booze and of course, red wine barrels. The flavour is very intense - quite different than the regular Black Hole - with licorice, vanilla, and some chocolate, accentuated by the red wine barrels. Slightly more lively carbonation than the base beer with an oily palate and a dry vinous, fruity, barrel-tinged, boozy finish. Excellent, but no where close to the original.

Black with a brown head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malt, chocolate and vanilla. Flavor is very sweet and rather bitter. Dry and roasted rather bitter finish with warming alcohol. 190811

375 ml green bottle (corked and wired), red foil top / partly red label, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 13.1%. Pitch black colour, low brown head. Lovely roasty, oaky and vinous aroma, also hints of leather and cigarbox. Very roasty flavour (a distinct roasty and hoppy bitterness throughout), medium sweet with distinct oaky notes.

Bottle at Monks Porterhouse. Pours brown with a tone of red, dark tan head. Spicy aroma with coffe and chcolate. Vionous tastewiht oak, chocolate, licorice and strawberries. Complex and pleasant!

MN Ratebeer Winter Gathering, January 29, 2011. Green pepper aroma with burnt grains. Chocolate, heavily roasted malted and burnt coffee. Unfortunately I do not pick up any character from the wine barrel. The high abv is well hidden. An OK beer.

Thanks to yespr for this one. Bottle looks very good, I like it. Beer in the glass deep black, a bit oily, small head. Starts very strong, intense malty, quite alcoholic-oily, woody notes in the background. Finish more and more fruity like berries, fiery-malty aftertaste, some hints of chocolate. Very good!
