Bottle from Pyl-Blommaert in Melsele near Beveren. Gusher, foam flooding from the bottle neck upon opening - not a big surprise anymore from this brewery. Irregular, initially very thick and rocky, ’papery’ lacing, loosely knit, off-white, coarse head, eventually reduced to a bubbly ring with a pattern of flat ’islands’ in the middle, over a lightly hazy yellow blonde beer with somewhat greenish tinge. Aroma of coriander (almost more fresh leaves than the classic seeds), hand soap, starfruit, chewing gum, lavender, ladies’ perfume even, lemon candy, sugared grapefruit juice, watermelon, wet paper, green apple, hints of white pepper, tulips, pineapple, fresh cucumber, chalk. Crisp, fruity onset, sharply overcarbonated with fizzy, minerally carbon dioxide adding not too flattering sourishness to an otherwise restrainedly sweetish profile, with a lot of banana ester (even bubblegummy), some pineapple and quite a lot of green apple acetaldehyde as well; the carbonation stings and numbs the tip of the tongue to an extent where it becomes unpleasant even for a simple Belgian blonde. Slick, cereally pale malt sweetish middle with soft ’white’ bready properties to it, ongoing banana and green apple, soapy mouthfeel. Finishes crisp and minerally, with indeed the announced hop bitterness coming to full development, more so than average in this style, leafy, rooty and floral, depositing a peppery bitterness to the root of the tongue - though still relatively gently so, I wouldn’t mind a bit more of this, actually. Ends very soapy (coriandered) and bubblegummy like it began but something exotically citrussy lingers retronasally - can’t quite put my finger on it, kumquat perhaps? Too bad for the gushing and sharp overcarbonation, but otherwise an interesting blonde, differing itself from the mainstream in its perfumey, soapy profile combined with a decent ’end bitterness’. Not my beer but there is a certain degree of individuality to this, which I can at least conceptually appreciate. More or less.

Bottle shared with Antonius Willem. Hazy pale yellow color, average sized white head. Aroma is lightly malts, wheat, yeast, citrus. Taste lightly malts, citrussy again and indeed like the label says "pompelmoes". Average to medium body, a bit fizzy carbonation. Ok beer.

330 ml. bottle drank @ Bahnhove. A very hazy orange, solid white head. Nose is overly yeasty (part of this I blame on the waiter who decided to pour the whole bottle in one go), yeast dominates here heavily, murky, oddly boozy with too much esters for me plus some sugar as well. Taste is grainy, moldy yeast, esters, sugar, candy, herbal, coriander, murky yeast, not getting Cascade here, totally buried, moldy yeasty & coriander. Strongly yeasty body. Overly BE in a bad way & overly yeast. Body is overly yeast. Yeah… Too bad, I do suspect that even without the yeast shot, I would have written down the same comment, even with a yeast shot, a beer shouldn’t be this yeasty, boozy, mold / plaster tasting. The brewery does deserve the benefit of doubt. I tried 4 of their beers in a setting. 2 were messy & unbalanced but pleasant. The beers in BE styles had this whole yeast, esters, booze thing going on.
