Bottle at De Heeren van Liedekercke, March 2012. Vintage 2004. Clear dark golden with a small head. Nice sour aroma with sweet malt, vinegar, wood and some marzipan. The taste was good and quite sweet and sour. Soft carbonation and with a medium mouth feel.

2004 Vintage bottle shared@Kulminator: appearance is incredible, no head whatsoever but it does lace a little bit, absolutely clear down to the point it looks transparent red going to slight orange/amber colour, sour yes but it also wonderfully balanced by a certain sweetness, acidic, tart cherries, lacquered wood, berries, malt, tart, funky, some sugar, slight brett, not getting any vinegar, both residual sugar sweetness mixed with tartness & nice acidic finish, incredible depth, more or less flat, amazing /// have had this many times since, no change in opinion

2004 bottle (number 017505) at the Delirium cafe, Brussels. It pours reddish amber with pretty much no head or carbonation. The nose is sweet strawberry, raspberry, vinous, malt vinegar and orange. The taste is juicy strawberry, wood, tangy cherry, tart lemon, some malt vinegar (but not nearly as much as Grand Cru), wine-like, brandy and alcohol warmth in the finish. It is initially full of sweet fruit, but has a tart finish. It is very well balanced and so drinkable at this strength. Amazing stuff.

24/03/2011 - 37.5cl bottle @ Aba-jour (Gent) (2011-122)
Little cloudy amber coloured beer, no head, just some small bubbles at the rim of the glass. Aroma: fresh tartness, touch of apple skin, vinegar, honey. MF: very light carbon, medium to full round body. Taste: very malty, wood, toast, bit bready, all of this next to the obvious flavours of sour and crisp tartness. Aftertaste: fruity raspberry touch and even a little sweet, probably the alcohol. Man, this is some good stuff!

375ml Bottle, bought at Brugs BF 09, shared with Nate2g. Clear golden amber colour, no head. Aroma of a vinegar like sourness, sweet malts, honey, wood, marzipan, very nice. Flavour is sour at first, quickly turns sweet, malty, honey, some cherry/marzipan, sweet alcohol (no burn), sweet-sour finish. You can tell this is a very sour beer, but the sweetness balances it excellently. Medium to fullbodied, slick, very soft but light prickly carbonation, like an acid tingle. I am not a sour beer lover (understatement), but this is really good.

2004 bottle shared by Ryan at beerloco’s tasting. Pours extremely clear dark copper. Nose of oak, tart dark fruits, brown sugar and yeast. Taste of tart dark fruits, deep caramelized chocolate cherries, vinous grapes, grains, and oak.

Bottle number 000776 via a trade with bu11zeye (huge thanks). 2004 Vintage. Rating number 4100. Pours with a hazed golden-amber-orange hued body with a few stray bubbles on top. Aroma is room filling and intoxicating. Huge red wine notes from a distance. Wow, complex, vinegar, currants, earthiness, caramel. Beautiful fruitiness, plums, dates. A small aged character as well in the finish, but it does not clash. Taste is acidic and complex. Huge duration, lots of fruit, caramel, dates, red wine, toasted wood, vinegar, maderia, chestnuts. Just a hint of carbonation. Boozy. Really intense flavors. Stomach altering acidity and alcohol (on an empty stomach), but these flavors do not hurt the nose, tongue or throat. Really nicely vinous. There is some subtle age, but I think it does the beer well. The flavors really mesh together nicely to create a complex experience. Great beer. Surprisingly I could pour the whole bottle into the glass, as it doesn’t appear to be bottle conditioned (surprise, but I guess not if this was during the Palm era). Now I need to track down some Alexander for a future milestone!

Bottle at Delirium Café. Medium amber-orange, with bubbly lace. Light aroma of vinegar, yogurt, cherries. Almost flat; silky. Hides its alcohol very well. Vinegar, cherries/grapes, yogurt flavors. Wonderful balance. Slightly sherry-like. Superb, but needs to go with food—like a nice pate de fois gras!
