Bottle at RBESG ’14, day 4 not so grand tasting at Craft Clerko, 10/08/14. Pitch black with a dirty tan swirl and edgework. Nose carries a big coffee blast, java, roast, earthy cocoa rub. Taste comprises spice, light caramel, rich chocolate, roast coffee. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close with roasty tones in the close and a little chilli heat. Solid coffee lead impy - me likey!

Bottle picked up at La Atlantica, Satiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain June 2014. Consumed at Cropredy ’Fairports Annual Reunion’ Festival, Cropredy, Oxon, Saturday 8th August 2014 Really smooth the bourbon being particularly well integrated here but there is also a decent level of hoppiness. Indulgent beer with a warming silky smooth chocolateyness and a coffee edge throughout. A8 A4 T8 P4 Ov17 4.1

Bottle thanks to the cad at RBESG 2014. It pours near black with a dense tan head. The nose is roasted malt, rich coffee, mild acidity, dark chocolate, wood and dirt. The taste is bitter roast, earth, coffee, dark chocolate, alcohol heat, slick, wood, rocky road and earth with a dry cocoa finish. Fullish body, fine carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Decent.

Bottle. Bottle. Opaque black body, creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, coffee and cream. The flavor is heavily sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes moderately to heavily sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/oily texture, soft carbonation. Taste cocoa, bourbon, oak, vanilla. Cloyingly sweet perhaps because of its age, but this should have held up better.

75cl bottle @ the Fourth Shrewsbury Bottle Share, courtesy of Simon. The finale to a great evening of various, and at times bizarre, styles of beer. A beautifully complex and constantly evolving taste with bitter dark chocolate, burnt caramel and roasted elements.. an enticing, sultry blend. Just wish there was more to delve into.

Review according to BJCP2008 guidelines (style 13F). AROMA: very complex cocoa, coffee and bourbon barrel aromas. medium alcohol aroma. no hop aromas. APPEARANCE: opaque jet black with a very tanned head. medium head retention. TASTE: complex flavour with cocoa very present, slight dried grapes flavour, coffee and bourbon. medium hop flavour that lingers towards the end accompanied with roastiness, bitterness and slight warming character. balanced malt flavour with medium-high bitterness. PALATE: very-full body with a velvety texture. gentle warmth from alcohol. medium carbonation. OVERALL: a very complex, special, imperial stout with a plethora of flavours, maybe a bit sweet from the added cocoa but nonetheless highly recommended.
