330ml bottle into glass. Subdued malty nose. Copper coloured beer with solid two finger white head. Lots of tiny bubbles. Slight zing in the mouth, medium body. Initial hoppiness is followed by smoky malts then a light citric finish. Does taste like English ales. Delicious.

On tap at the White Horse, Parsons Green. Very hazy dark amber beer. Residual white head. Light dry palate that’s also softish. Soft creamy malt with a spot of tea. Tiny bit of orange hop. Minerals. Soft dry finish and a bitterish aftertaste. Drinkable.

Hazy light amber. Earthy aroma with a light citrus accent. Some nice fruity notes, light earthiness as well from oxidation. OK.

From a 330ml bottle on 21/3/2010. Somehow the name of this beer seems inappropriate - sounds like a boring pale lager, which couldn’t be further from the truth. This a dark, bottle conditioned treat. Smells great - very malty and hoppy, with dried fruits. The flavour bursting with malt and fruit, and has a fabulous, satisfying bitter finish. A lovely beer which is full of character.

Stubby. Aroma: bread and grapefruit. Dark copper with a little cloudiness even with a careful pour. Modest but persistent light beige head. There’s enough chewiness and malt to balance lingering medium hop bitterness. 7 2 8 4 16[3.7] Muddy copper with a persistent pale beige head. Aroma of caramel, bread, grapefruit, pine. Biscuits, caramel malt with grapefruit. Lingering bitter finish. Maybe this has got bitterer over the years or the hops have become more American-accented. First couple of these for quite a while and I like it as much as ever.[3.7]Bottle from 1st Choice. No date, but presumably old. No hops detectable in the aroma, a hint of citrus in the taste. More biscuit than bread. Still pleasant enough, but time to date the bottles. Leaving score as is but this was 3.0.

Pours garnet/pale copper with a creamy somewhat persistent head.Quite a powerful aroma of resinous hops, sweet caramel malt and a bit of citrus.Lots of caramel flavour with what might be some sweet crystal malt later on. Hop profile is limited, but finishes with a prominent green hoppy bitterness.Good mouthfeel with a great laid-back carbonation.Really loving these malty English pale ales I’ve been having lately.

Reddish amber appearance. Some yeast left in the bottle. Crystal malt flavour, rather clean, medium bodied, bitter finish. A tasty, drinkable ale, very much reminding of an American amber ale.
