Bottle from Deli Belge, Sowerby Bridge. Dark reddish-brown with a thin head. Strong but not quite feeling its strength, partly through a gentle smoothness in its texture. It has rich dark malts in its taste with a sweetness here and in its nose.

Pours clear brown with a red hue and lasting foamy light tan head, in a nice glass. The aroma contains roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, caramel and alcohol. It tastes medium to heavy sweet, only very light bitter and spicy. Oily texture, full body and soft carbonation. Very warming but the alcohol overrules it a bit too much.

Joyeux Noël de chez Martin ! C’est relativement un beau cadeau que nous fais cette brasserie qui m’a plus d’une fois déçue. Le « relativement » est cependant un point important. La bonne surprise fut d’avoir dégusté une véritable bière de Noël respectant chaleur, suavité et épices. Cependant le manque de complexité et plusieurs défauts n’en font pas plus qu’une bière appréciable. Le packaging est plutôt plaisant, à dominante rouge et un graphisme de saison. En verre, la Gordon XMas Ale est également appréciable, brune, parfaitement limpide, avec de jolis reflets rubis. La mousse, beige, ne nappe cependant que la surface de la bière. Le nez, est insuffisamment développé mais agréable sur le pruneau, le chocolat et parsemé d’un brin de réglisse. A l’instar, l’attaque, douce, est peu aromatique avec des notes de candi, de réglisse et de café qui se font ressentir. La seconde bouche est nettement plus intéressante avec l’arrivée de l’amertume bien soutenue par l’alcool avec des arômes dominants de chocolat et de réglisse. L’arrière bouche, sur les fruits rouges mûrs, cerises et pruneaux, complète bien l’ensemble. Le final, d’une bonne longueur, laissera quant à lui davantage place à la réglisse. L’homogénéité globale est bonne, même si on regrettera un sucre trop important alourdissant notamment le final. L’ensemble manque par contre de complexité et on reste sur des arômes trop linéaires. Mais ne boudons pas notre plaisir....et joyeux Noël belgico-écossais !

Flesje gedeeld met familie. Donkerbruin bier met weinig schuim. Weinig aroma, smaak is vol van caramel ook een vleugje van chocolade is te vinden. Nasmaak is iets hoppig.

Fles gedeeld met Inoven en JoepvW. Het is een bruin/rood bier met weinig schuim. Wel een lekker kruidige smaak.

Bottle, 0.33l. Deep ruby pour with thin layer of beige head that lasts throughout the whole drink. Very pleasant smell; caramel, toffee, yeast, hint of vanilla. Slightly liquory and woody. Full body, softly carbonated with a thick and creamy texture. Taste is lightly sweet and boozy with bitter aftertaste. Aroma of yeast, brown sugar, caramel, toffee. Slightly woody. Touch of vanilla and licorice. Mostly bitter aftertaste. Overall, tasty and warming. Nice one.

33 cl bottle. Slightly hazy amber colour with a creamy, lightly tanned head. Sweet aroma with caramel malts, toasted notes, bread, liquorice, subtle smoked notes. Brown cookies. Berries. Taste is sweet. Full body with a creamy texture and a soft carbonation. Finishes slightly dry with caramel malts and fruity-spicy hints. Nice winter warmer. Some booze as the beer warms up.
