Belgian-style pale ale

Inspired by the fresh, sessionable beers on the Belgian dinner table, we’re bringing back a 2015 favorite. This hoppy Belgian-style pale ale is bright and flavorful with an assertive hop character. Jardinier is French for gardener, and this beer is a veritable garden of flavor— perfect for any occasion, casual or ornate.

Bottle, bit of a gusher on opening. Pours clear golden, large lasting white puff head, clumpy lacing. Aroma is floral, orange zest, grassy, a hint of pepper. Flavor is dry, light bitter, grassy, herbal, citrus zest, lingering white pepper. Light body, high carbonation. Tasty little table beer, this one.

Pour is a lemon-aid lookalike with a average white head. Aroma is a nice lemon juice but also very floral like fresh picked flowers. Flavor is more of a floral with some bitterness and a bit of Belgian yeast ester. Finish is not tart but a minor bitterness with a clean dry malt. Very palate cleansing and clean, prefect for summer drinking during a meal.

One of six beers on a flight at Bru Grill and Market, Lake Forest, Orange County on 21st May 2015. Light golden pour with a full white head. My initial thoughts on smelling and tasting was of Wheat, then yeast and finally spicy notes. Decent enough, but advertised as a ’Belgian Style Ale’ what the hell is that?

The beer is light orangey yellow. The liquid is clouded over. Off-white head, big and puffy. Lots of lacing. Pretty good retention. The aroma is lightly floral with a nice doughy malt character. Mild fruit, apricots and raisins. Little bit of grass. Light earthy yeast flavor. Minty herbal presence. Taste kinda goes downhill as it warms. When cooler, it seemed crisper and drier, but a little heat gives the beer a flabby, fruity sweetness. Not awful but takes away from it. There’s a fruity, earthy yeast character. Mild bitterness. Medium light on the palate. Could use a drier finish and a bit more hop flavor.

Poured from a bottle. Aroma is slightly malty with some hints of toasted bread and caramel. Moderate stone fruit esters with pear and red apple. A light coriander phenolic note with some medium light floral and earthy hop notes. Pours a slightly hazy, golden orange with some copper hues and a large, pillow, white head that exhibits nice retention. High amounts of lacing as the head slowly recedes and faint legs. Flavor is slightly sweet with some medium light grain and bread notes with cracker in the finish. Some light fruit esters with red apple, pear and over ripe nectarine. Low phenolic notes of pepper. Moderate hop character, spicy, floral and earthy. Medium to medium high bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium light bodied with medium high carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a pretty nice table beer. Easy drinking, but hoppy with nice Belgian ester qualities and some light phenolics. Simple and clean.

Draught at Publick House, 3/23/15
Small white head tops a pale, white-gold colored body with a medium-high to high clarity.
Sharp yellow fruit esters in the nose (dry apricots, unripe white peach, etc) combine with a very, very grainy malt aroma to come off very sharp and astringent. Quite unwaveringly fruity and dry with a touch of minerality.
Same sharp, scratching malt does nothing to combat the heavily dry, estery and somewhat phenolic (white pepper) yeast profile. Acidity is way out of place in this light of a beer. Prickly carbonation and a somewhat flimsy body continue to annoy. Much like Mischief, this is pretty near the epitome of pseudo-Belgian style American brewing. No elegance nor interesting yeast profile. Way too much bitterness. Hard to finish.

750 ml bottle from RS. Pretty clear blonde, light head. Aroma is floral hops and pale grain, yeast.

Yep, table beer that is indeed hoppy from a floral hop character. Light body with a lager like body. Pretty tame overall.
