Forget Benji, forget Scooby, forget Astro and Toto. This hard-nosed Altbeer is an ode to Rex, the ber Private Dick dog from the cult 1990s Austrian TV series Commissaris Rex. For this doppelstick we’ve erased all of Rex’s Austrian roots and made him 100% German shepherd. Who ever heard of an Austrian shepherd, anyway? Sniff the nobility of southern German Spalt hops and enjoy this smooth copper ale’s slight caramel kick. Whoof-Whoof.

Bottle at home. Aroma of malt, caramel, toffee, bread, raisins, light herbal notes, fruity notes. Flavour is medium sweet with a moderate to medium bittersweet finish. A bit sticky. Body is medium to full. My first "Doppelsticke". Definitely more tasty than the average Altbier.

(Draught at Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 26 Aug 2018) Dark reddish brown colour with creamy, beige head. Malty nose with caramel, black-currant, dark bread and red fruit. Malty, fruity taste with notes of caramel, black-currant, red fruit, hints of pink grapefruit, burnt sugar, plums and a finish with low bitterness. Almost full body, with slight sweetness. Tasty, quite complex and well balanced. Nice one.
