Bold, smoky character with a smooth malty finish. The first thing one notices about a Samuel Adams® Bonfire Rauchbier is the deep smoky flavor which is balanced by a blend of malts that provide hints of caramel & toffee sweetness.

Reviewed from notes.
The appearance was a dark amber hazy body, no head, no lacing.
The smell had smokey meaty coming through in a dull bland way
The was exactly the same as the smell and was really heavy.
The palate sat about a medium, not exactly sessionable (at IMO), bland sticky aftertaste pounding all around my tongue, assault by carbonation, bland meaty finish.
Overall, however I guess this still fits the style, but I’m not a fan of this whatsoever.

A style that I am still trying to wrap my head around after trying a few traditional bamburg offerings. Had this one with some smoked sausages for authenticity and they went together like peanut butter and grape jelly. I found this to be a little easier on the palate than the other rauchbiers I’ve had.

Bottle. Pours a reddish brown color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty smoky caramel aroma. Sweetish malty smoky flavor with hints of caramel. Has a fruity weak roasted malty smoky finish.

12 oz bottle from Safeway Salinas. Nose is light smoke, an almost bacon note, and toffee. Clear cherry brown with a medium tan head. Flavor is light campfire smoke mixed with caramel malts. Not over smoked IMHO.

Very dark brown color. Low carbonation, with a lacing head. Very light smoke aroma. More smoke in the flavor, but for a smoked beer, not very much of it. Sweet caramel malts with a sweet finish.

Bottled@SBWF2011. Amber colour, small off-whitre head. Aroma is smoked wood, some malts, grains and earth. Flavour is much the same. Rather watery palate compared to Schlenkerla Rauchbier and S:t Eriks Rauköl, which I had in the glasses next to this one.

Bottled at Stockholm Beer Festival. Nut brown, small head. Light beechwood smoke aroma. Mid sweet with light-medium body, some syrup and clean mouthfeel. The beechwood smoke is pleasant, but the character shallow. A simplistic rauchbier.

Purchased at Vas Foremost in Chicago, IL; enjoyed on a Saturday afternoon, house all to myself, watching college football. Appearance a very dark maroon/brown with a thin white head. Aroma of slight smoked malt, encased meat, kinda does smell like my clothes after camping. Taste is nice, the smoke is a bit in the back end, has a touch of sweetness, definitely more malty than anything else. Medium body & carbonation. Not bad, solid rauchbier.

12oz bottle from Pick’s poured into a shaker. Pours an almost clear burnt amber with a half finger of light tan head. Light aroma of burning hickory chips. Taste is lightly bitter. Strong taste of smoke. Medium bodied with a thick texture. Lively carbonation and a long smokey finish. Overall, awesome. Something I will definitely drink again.
