People with great knowledge of the craft beer business told us that storytelling is half the pleasure of drinking expensive beer. So we asked a local historian to dig into the location of Amager Bryghus. And to say the least, we were thrilled to discover that our brewhouse is located next to an old water hole on the historic trash trail across Amager. Since ancient time our ancestors have quenched their thirst right here while transporting their rubbish to the famous trash pits of Amager. Likewise is the Buffalo Trace Destillery in Frankfort, Kentucky located on what was once an ancient buffalo crossing on the banks of the Kentucky River. Thus history blends together beautifully – from Amager to Kentucky. We hope you’ll enjoy how we in this special edition of Hr. Frederiksen blends strong black beer with some of the best quality Bourbon ever made.

(Bottle) Black colour with dense brown head. Malty, roasted, slightly vinous nose with strong black coffee, bourbon, oak wood, dark chocolate, liquorice, dried fruit, figs and rum raisins. Malty, roasted taste with notes of sweet and strong black coffee, bourbon, vanilla, oak wood, dark chocolate, liquorice, dried fruit and a warming finish with a generous roasty bitterness and a warming bourbon glow. Full body, with a certain sweetness. Well made imperial stout with a generous bourbon wood character. Very nice.

Bottle at tasting. Thick black pour. Great aroma of sweet bourbon vanilla, chocolate and some malt. Thick taste of vanilla, bourbon booze, creamy milk chocolate and a long rich finish. Great dessert beer. Thanks Bor!

Sampled from bottle at Borresteijn’s place, best before January 2018. Very dark red to black with a tan head. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity and boozy aroma of dark chocolate, molasses, raisins and dark ripe fruits. Sweetish-malty, slightly roasty, a little boozy taste of molasses, dark chocolate, vanilla and dark ripe fruits, followed by a medium long, warming-alcoholic finish. Medium body, slightly oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice, but very boozy.

50cl Bottle from Plovmand, thanks Thomas! Black colour, beige head. Aroma of strong barrel notes, light varnish, booze, wood, burnt liquorice. Flavour is medium sweet, wood, roasted malts, chocolate brownie, hint of varnish and green apples, harsh bitter and boozy finish. Medium bodied. The base beer is much better imho.

500 ml bottle @ Cardinal. Black body with a small tan head. Aroma has black malt and coffee with wood, but the bourbon really dominates here in a boozy way. Flavor is quite nice, sweet dark, mild roasted malt, nice roasted, coffee, chocolate, balanced bitterness and wood, but again the alcoholic bourbon flavor takes over too much. Fine body and the bourbon almost feels sticky in the aftertaste after a while. Definitively a beer for sipping and charring in smaller amounts, nothing against bourbon flavored stouts, but this is simply too much for me in the long run – at least for a whole bottle. I felt lucky to also have the original Hr. Fredriksen at the table.

Bottle at Hoppy pub Thessaloniki. Black color with almost no head. Alcohol in the aroma, along with roasted malts and chocolate. Alcoholic taste, bourbon and chocolate again.

Deep opaque brown color, small brownish head. Fresh wood in the nose. Full-bodied. Wood is present in the flavor, alcohol too then toasted maltyness. I prefer regular. Not much bourbon here.
