Horny Devil is our interpretation of a Belgian-style Golden Ale. Brewed with authentic Belgian ingredients including candi sugar and a Trappist yeast strain, its fruity and spicy aromas include notes of orange, banana, and peppercorns. Coriander seeds add refreshing citrus notes which meld seamlessly with the beer’s delicate malt. Horny Devil finishes with a lively carbonation and a refreshingly dry finish.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Fast gusher upon opening. Pours moderately cloudy golden amber color with a 2 finger fairly dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings around the glass, with plenty of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big lemon, orange peel, pear, apple, grape, coriander, clove, pepper, herbal, floral, grass, candi sugar, cracker, bread, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, spice, and malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big lemon, pear, apple, grape, orange peel, coriander, clove, pepper, herbal, floral, grass, candi sugar, cracker, bread, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of lemon, pear, apple, grape, orange peel, coriander, clove, pepper, herbal, floral, grass, candi sugar, cracker, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity and balance of yeast, spice, and malt flavors; with a great malt/yeast balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a lightly slick, smooth, and moderately crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Belgian strong pale ale. All around great balance and complexity of yeast, spice, and malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

75cl bottle, Kaisla, Helsinki 19.10.2013. As my rating #2500. Hazy light amber in color, thick white head. Orange, coriander, wheat, quite spicy aroma. Flavor has coriander, malt, yeast, more spicyness towards finish. Long sweet spicy finish. Hides abv completely. Tasty and well balanced brew.

Light golden, clear, minimal white head. Smells of caramel, coriander, cereal, hay, grass and sweet yeast. Medium sweetness, lightly bitter, light body. Lively, thin feel, very well balanced and refreshing.

750 ml bottle. This has been cellar about 14 months. Clear amber color with steady carbonation. Great nose of candy sugar, yeast, oranges and a trace of coriander seed. The coriander is just a wisp in the flavor (which is a good thing). Candy sugar, apples, yeast, sweet bread notes and pears. This fruity yeast is damn tasty. 11% ABV is completely hidden throughout at this point of age. Real nice brew.

Bottle at home, from BD Online, enjoyed with a curry 24/08/13. Lightly hazed pale golden yellow with a good sized frothy off white head that retains well. Nose is apple pie, light yeast esters, touch of soap, lemon rind, grass, sweet dough, corriander. Taste comprises citrus, apple skin, touch of alcohol, corriander, spice, lemon zest, some hop presence, light caramel notes. Top end of medium bodied with a good bite, fine carbonation, a little warming booze in the finish. Solid Belgian affair and was a great accompaniment to my curry, alocohol is well integrated.

750ml bottle. Cloudy olden colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Fruity aroma has notes of pineapple, pear, some citrus, a minimally spicy, yeasty touch, a minimally grainy touch also. Taste is minimally sweet fruity, pineapple, pear, peach, a tart citrus dash. Clean, precise, paradigmatic for its style - Alesmith as we know it.

Bottle @ Christianssand Brygghus. Slightly hazy golden with a big, creamy white head that fades rather quickly. Aroma of sweet malt, brown sugar, Belgium yeast. Spices, pepper and alcohol. Flavor is sweet malt, candy sugar, spices, yeast, moderate bitterness, fruity and a bit too much alcohol in my opinion. Fine body and long aftertaste. A fantastic beer, no doubt – just a bit too raw on the alcohol compared with the best originals.

Thx! to Kraddel. 750 ml. Sampled. Hazy golden with a thick white head. Nose is huge old grapefruit, touch old BE yeast, touch blaster, vintage notes,… Taste is over carbonated old BE yeast; spices, light caramel, thick spices, cheese, thick old plaster,.. Body is over carbonated. About as good as any over-aged BE beer. Not worth the price & effort, total downer.
