What does it mean? Yes, what indeed does it all mean. Meaning of course is elusive and illusive. It can’t or shouldn’t be found on this bottle. Should it? Yet what if it was? Would you begin to look for pearls of wisdom or life direction on a beer label? Perhaps it’s been there all along. Since meaning is a mere illusion, perhaps we shouldn’t let it have any influence on our destiny. This particular beer refused to succumb to the illusion of meaning or allow capricious parameters to have any influence on its own fermented fate. Are we even asking the right question? Are you feeling frustrated in the emptiness? If so, that could be because someone got to this beer before you, and thus there’s a reason for that emptiness. It’s empty. And if so, perhaps there indeed is not any meaning for you here after all.

Style over Substance, or Substance over the scriptures of Style? The latter, thank you very much. Twice.

Bottle sample at a tasting at kerenmk’s place. Thanks troubles. Dark brown to black. Roasty aroma with some dark chocolate and light notes of stale hops. Bittersweet roasty flavor with dark chocolate. Medium-bodied. Nice.

35,5 cl bottle @ home, rated on 23.04.2010
Aroma is rather hoppy with fruits, some nettles, gooseberry bush and hay. Flavour is somewhat sweet and rather hoppy with fruits, ash and hints of hay. Kind of reminds me of hopfenweisse.

Clear and very dark red - brown beer. A little hop on the nose. Softish palate. Dark and bitter chocolate. Repressed but spicy hops. Some fruit, but well buried. A little off the beaten track.

Bottle shared at Mikkeller Bar. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma was sickly - perhaps a bad bottle or didn’t age well. Flavour is better with roasted malt, caramel and light chocolate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

0.33l bottle #298 @ Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen. Always wanted to try this one! It pours a deep deep reddish body with a small bubbly light tan head. The aroma is both sweet and dark. Roasted caramel, rich malty sweetness, licorice and chocolate and also hints of dusty dark dried fruits. Soft on the carbonation level and it has a smooth oily and kinda dusty mouthfeel. Could be the dusty bottle that's fooling me in to believing this though.. Anyhow, it tastes really nice! Lots of woody caramel, salty licorice, dark fruits - and it's all so incredible well blended and integrated! Just lovely stuff! 07.01.2012

A deep dark clear brown ale with a very thin big bubbled mocha head. In aroma, superb licorice and molasse malt, with grassy herbal hops, treacle, very classy. In mouth, a superb burned peaty caramel malt with molasses, coffee grinds, licorice, wood extract, superb and complex. Bottled on 25-12-10 (Batch 298). Wow!

Holzig-malziger Beginn, wobei der Hopfen schon deutliche Erschöpfungserscheinungen zeigt. Bitter, angenehme Hopfengabe, süffig. 9/9/9/9/11/9

Bottle, thanks Grima! Fine tobacco roast and hop aroma. Opaque black. Lacing brown head. Creamy mouthfeel. Great balance from roast malt and hop profile. Yummy.
