Bottle at return of the Jack, thanks to Paul, 06/03/14. Clear orange amber with moderate off white spottage. Nose is candied sugars, apricot, light booze, hoppy pangs, caramel fudge. A rich caramel vein runs throughout this one, candied fruits, sweet licks, hints of pine. Medium + bodied, fine carbonation, light booze in the close. Solid barley wine, booze evident but not overpowering, sweet but kept in check, tropical and hoppy undertones which reduce the 1D factor you sometimes get in this style and help keep it interesting.

500 ml bottle from Tallinna Kaubamaja. Pours light amber, not very foamy. Aroma has some very sharp hops, something softer underneath that resiny blanket. Taste is very hoppy as well, resins, it actually feels more like a double IPA, not a hopped up barleywine. Aftertaste is long and bitter - but not too bitter. This beer has a good balance, wonderful and "hoppily" enjoyable.

Jack is back tasting at Bruce’s. Thanks to Paul. Clear amber beer, few tan bubbles for a head. Palate is very slightly viscous with fine minerally carbonation. Smooth toffee streaked malt. Light salty bitterness with lesser marmalade bitterness. Touches of malt cream and hop skunk in the semi dry finish. Modest bitter linger. Certainly feels like a US barleywine. Nice job.

Bottle shared during Jack’s Second Return - London. Thanks to Paul. Pours clear gold with a frothy white head. Lovely aroma, nice melon, mango, some pine, bread. Medium sweet flavor, moderate piney bitterness, ripe citrus, light alcohol. Medium to full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Lightly warming finish with rich fruits, papaya, pine, some bready sugars. Quite nice.

Bottle shared at Bruce’s. It pours orangish amber with a medium yellow head. The nose is pine, juicy fruits, toffee, raisin, wood, earth, orange peel, Irn Bru, fig and plum skin. The taste is bitter, resinous, earth, umami, raw bitterness, some dried fruits, touch of alcohol and a touch of spice with a lingering bitter finish. Medium-full body and fine carbonation. Punchy, yet drinkable. Very tasty hoppy barleywine.

50cl bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - a reddish amber with a thin head. Nose -oranges and pine. Some crinchy malt behind it. Taste - more dry hopped oranges. Palate - huge structure with a big tangy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - a giant beer which still has elegance. Somewhere between a barley wine and a double pale ale. Great brew, Craig.

500ml wax-sealed bottle from Cornelius. Pours clear amber with a thin off-white head. Big orange citrus hop nose, some herbal tones too. Light golden syrup. Taste has a big hop presence too, making me think this is more into double IPA territory than barley wine. Medium bodied, creamy texture, good clean finish. Very nice.
