330ml bottle. Clear, chestnut brown colour with average, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, off-white to beige head. Intense nuttily malty aroma, sweetish, hints of nougat, a touch of roast. Taste is dry malty, nuttily, minimally roasty, subtle sweetness, dry hints of nut parings, well matching hoppy overtones with minimally herbal and grassy touch. Really nice.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Poured a clear dark brown with a thin off white head. The aroma is big nut woody malt. The flavour is medium bitter with a smooth earthy malt hop bitter palate and a long bitter finish. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation. Really liked this one from the aroma through to the finish.

Clear deep red - amber beer with a tidy pale cream coloured head. Smooth palate with light fine carbonation. Smooth creamy malt, semi dry. Very light touches of roast, coffee and smoke. Light smooth finish. Okay but wants something else.

Bottle from ’Jacks’, Goring-on-Thames, Oxon, consumed at Easthope campsite nr Much Wenlock, Shropshire, Thursday 22 August 2013 Pours dark brown, absolutely oodles of coffee, really big coffee. Tangy, fruity, roasty and a little bitter, good beer, really good, some good quality cocoa in there as well for good measure. I have passed over this beer so many times when visiting Jacks, perhaps put off a little by the musical tie-ins, but not any more this is a very good beer. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8

Bottle at home in London - picked up at Kris Wines. Pours clear, red-brown with a strong, lasting beige froth head. The aroma holds a bit of chalky cocoa, well toasted malts, some dry earth. Light to medium sweet flavor, lots of bittersweet cocoa, some almost-burnt brown bread, licks of robust coffee, earthy bitterness. Medium bodied with average, creamy carbonation. The texture is fairly oily. Finishes with lots more bittersweet cocoa, further earthy bitterness, burnt toast, dirt, charred malts. A pretty sturdy brown ale. Solid effort overall.

33cl bottle from Sourced Market, St Pancras. Dark brown beer very thin beige head. It’s an American style brown ale. Plenty of American hops, some brown malt. Not particularly complex. Clean in mouth. It’s a hoppy dark beer.
