The Chimay Gold, which is brewed in the heart of Scourmont Abbey, was for long reserved for the monastic community and its guests and staff. Its refreshing aromas of hops and spice are now yours to try.
Originally this was the refectory beer drunk by the monks and as such it was a water-diluted version of the Red Chimay, but it was given its own recipe in 2006. Initially it was only available in the abbey itself but since 2013 it is generally available. At the nearby Auberge de Poteaupré, it is tapped from the barrel as Chimay Spéciale Poteaupré.

Keg at the Dovetail, Farringdon, 23/09/22. Lightly hazed golden blonde with a decent lasting white cap. Nose is straw, herb, modest yeast esters, grains, candied fruit peel. Taste comprises straw, grains, light white peppery spice, stewed fruits, lemon rind, breads. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent sessionable Belgian number.

Bière bue à la croix ou pile en terrasse. Robe dorée claire légèrement trouble,belle mousse typique des Chimay. Nez doux,floral,bouche douce,légèrement maltée avec touche d'agrumes.cest une bière légère,avec un bon équilibre entre malt houblon sucre,rien ne ressort, mais elle est harmonieuse et n'a pas le goût désagréable que je ressens dans beaucoup de bières légères (typées pils). Très bonne dans son genre,sans faute.

330 ml bottle. Pours amber with light head. Aromas of candied fruit, light ginger, and toasted malts. Flavors of lemons, ginger, pears, and sharp toasted malts, Lots of carbonation. Crisp and clean when cold. But more like a ginger beer.

Sampled at Max's Belgian Fest 2022, pours a clear gold with some thin, white head. Nose is sweet, candy, sugar, some melon and pineapple. Flavors follow. There is a nice grist/grain character that hits the tongue and helps with the body. Clean finish, mostly dry. Quality product.

Bottle. Golden hazy (stored sideways, oops). Lemony caramel nose, lots of soft-spiced yeast esters. Flavor is nice, smooth and rounded, raisins and kumquat peel. Just a bit thin for the potential complexity that's behind it.
