Keg at RB Best, 31/01/16. Light black topped with a tan swirl. Nose is rich malt, vanilla, light spice, chocolate, booze fumes. Taste comprises roast malt, black pepper, light cognac notes, chocolate, molasses, fruit cake notes. Full bodied, fine carbonation, warming alcohol in the close. A little hot at times but a decent enough sipper that holds the ABV well.

Poured up on tap at RBWG16 where it exhibits a mahogany colored body that supports a light tan head of foam. The aroma offers up marshmallow and vanilla and then a blend of dark roasted malts, chocolate and some coconut. At the end of the draw the nose is hit with a modest cognac sensation that carries a mild booziness with it. The taste delivers velvety dark chocolate goodness going into vanilla, coconut and rimmed thinly by dark roasted malts, milk chocolate and a dark roasted coffee sensation. Into the finish it gets into a modest degree of boozy cognac. I love how this expertly crafted barrel treatment allows so many rich delicious beer notes to shine and where the barrel is just one facet of that richness. Well done.
