The aroma is interesting combining gingerbread, chocolate, spices and a faint hint of vanilla. The beer is full bodied and has a sweetness that dries out towards the finish. The flavor has notes of dried figs, spicy mango with an undertone of tobacco from the cascabel chillies, dark chocolate, and vanilla.

Pitch black, brown head. Aroma has flapjack.... caramel, malt, some fruit. Flavour has all of that with some dark chocolate, liquorice and fortunately (for me) only a hint of the chilli. Enough to warn the tongue and add a little something. Nothing more. It’s grand.

Keg at BD Clerkenwell. It pours jet black with a medium dark tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malts, rather savoury, umami, toasted sesame, chilli spice sting, peppery, meaty character, smoked sausage and earth. The taste is rich, unctuous, bitter, dark heavy roast, charred wood, cocoa, quite spicy, ashy, touch of chilli warmth, smoke, mild acidity, dull vanilla. some alcohol warmth, acidity and earth with lingering charred and spiced finish. Warming. Medium - full body and fine, prickly carbonation. Doesn’t hang together nearly as much as Hazelnut & cocoa version

Keg at BD Clerko, 20/02/17. Black with a decent tan head. Nose is chocolate, spice, light roast, toffee, fruit rinds, black pepper, faint chilli. Taste comprises rich chocolate, toffee fudge, light vanilla, cocoa nibs, spice, light chilli heat, aniseed, fruit rinds. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close. A really well balanced imperial stout ... very drinkable and just a touch of chilli.
