On the evening of August 28th, 2011, I witnessed the destruction of The Alchemist Pub and Brewery. Moments before the flood waters rolled across the dining room floor, I could hear my tanks bobbing against the floor from underneath my feet. 18 tanks of beer were poured down the drain, two survived. Through an unprecedented collaboration of Vermont brewers, I am pleased to offer you a one-of-a-kind beer release.

Admin note: This is for Luscious Pre-2014 (bottled / draft). If you had a canned 11% Luscious, see other entry.

Poured from a bottle. Aroma has some dark fruit notes and moderate oxidation. Moderate roast notes with some light ash and tobacco notes. Some raisin and dark toffee. Pours black with a small, moderately thick, mocha head that recedes to the edges where it lingers for a bit. Light lacing and moderate legs. Flavor is moderately sweet with balanced dark chocolate and roast notes. Quite a bit of roast notes with some oxidation in the form of cardboard. Medium bitterness with some light alcohol warmth. Hints of soy sauce. Moderate dark fruit notes with some raisin character. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low, but present astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice beer but it has some oxidation showing through. Nice roast notes with some light oak. Balanced but present dark fruit notes.

Bottle shared @ tasting. Opaque pitch black color, average sized brown head. Aroma is malts, a bit medicinal, a hint of smoke, something weird. Taste malts, dark malts, moderately roasty, roasted bitter. Nicely roasty bitter finish. Taste is way better than the aroma, although it gets a lot better after a while. Totally different from what it smelled like initially, way better. Nice.

Thank you Tommy for sharing this beer with me. Really excited to try it. Enjoyed at room temp in a stemmed wine glass

A - Pitch black, minor head that quickly fades.

S - Quite ashy. a ton of cocoa and marshmallow with just a touch of turpentine.

T - Very ashy, loads of milk chocolate, lots of licorice. sort of a boldness of really nice English bittering hops, creamy vanilla and charcoal

M - Very creamy. Really sticks around for some time.

O - I enjoyed this a LOT! If you can find a bottle, send it to me!

2008 bottle consumed at THE stouts tasting part 2, thanks to Leighton. It pours near black with a small dark tan head. The nose is rich roasted, coffee, bitter chocolate, earth, dried fruit and berry. The taste is roasted malt, chocolate, earth, some alcohol warmth, chocolate gateaux, dark fruit, light jam, bramble, raisin and light wood. Full body, moderate carbonation and velvety mouth-feel. Smooth, very well balanced and straight-up delicious. Bravo.

Stouts and Porters II. Thanks to Leighton for this one. Opaque dark brown - black beer, tidy tan head. Palate is airy and soft. Light touch of dark chocolate and aniseed spice. Mild coffee and cream. Finishes soft with more of the same. Nice subtle dark fruits. Well integrated and easy going.

Bottle shared at Bruce’s, London during The Stouts Tasting, Pt. II - huge thanks to Wally for this one. Pours thick, oily black with a dense, creamy brown head. Torched wood in the nose, some hefty dark chocolate, good roast. Medium to big sweet flavor, rich dark chocolate, some dark earth, burnt wood, dark fruits, some woody dryness. Full bodied with fine to average, creamy carbonation. Warming finish, some burnt marshmallows, robust chocolates, some chocolate syrup, bittersweet baking cocoa, earthy bitterness, burnt wood, some booze-soaked dark fruits, raisins. Quite wonderful.

Bottle. Pours with a deep, black hued body that completely coats the glass. Aromas are of deep chocolate, nutty, iodine, bread, light licorice, deep roast. Flavors are nutty, iodine, chocolate, cocoa, bready, toasty, warming. Medium-low carbonation, slightly thinner body than I was expecting with the style and the name. Nicely warming. Well balanced.
