Pours with little head and a dark brown body, heavy carbonation. Soft sweet barley on the aroma, nothing else. Flavour is more sweet barley, some muddy molasses, vague hint of hazelnut. Meh, just meh.

Clear deep amber beer, a few pale cream colour bubbles. Palate is light and finely minerally crisp. Thin malts but there is a decent dark toffee streak. Pleasantly ripe fruits, some prune and raisin. Modest treacle. Light finish. Plenty to keep you amused.

500ml bottle (BBE Sep 2016) into an Abbot Ale glass tankard at home on 4th Jan 2016. Lovely dark brown with a ruby hue in strong light, sadly no head would appear, even though I poured it robustly, just a wisp and collar. Red berries and malts rule the nose and taste, some spice/herb like flavours too. Fairly sweet yet with a semi-tart fruit pie finish. Different and interesting, a UK Christmas/Winter brew with a bit of character for a change.

50cl bottle from a local garden centre. A chestnut brown pour with a ring of cream head; earthy malt aroma; soft, nutty malt taste; and a chocolate malt finish with a touch of twiggy bitterness, that leaves a rather thin cocoa milky feel in the mouth.

Bottle from the Beers of Europe Christmas Crate. Brown pour with a swiftly vanishing white head. Blackcurrant and licorice toffee aroma. Bit of a cough medicine feel. Very light carbonation. Needs more body.

500ml bottle from beers of Europe, shared with jeevan. Pours dark ruby brown, no head, looks like cola! Aromas of brown malt, light spice. Taste is chewy, more toffee maltiness. Sticky finish. Ok.

500ml bottle from Webbs of Wychbold. Deep dark Amber colour. Aroma has spice, must be the Christmasness of the beer. Taste has, caramel, coffee and spices.

1000 ml bottle. The bottle is nice but without labels. Lovely toast aroma and dark colour. The sweetness is medium with cofee taste. Balanced alcohol.

Bottle from a colleague. It’s actually an ok slightly spiced dark brown bitter. Some malt, some hop, some spice. It’s a best bitter with some spices in. Tastes fine. Not too exciting but it’s ok.
