Based on AB04, but with added vanilla, 3.5 times the chilli, and a different coffee.

Bottle - Cocoa and chili, with hints of dark roast coffee. Jet black with a dark brown ring of head. Chili is very upfront, but balances well with the sweetness of the chocolate and vanilla. Slight bitterness and a long coffee finish. A complex beer that has been balanced beautifully, too bad it costs an arm and a leg.

33cl bottle from Appellation Wines. Pours opaque black with a lovely crema head which mostly disappears in the first two minutes. The weight of this beer in the glass is noticeable with the lace clinging to the side somewhat. The nose has dark chocolate, a hint of the pimento and an earthy maltiness. The taste is very much dark chocolate with a slow burning chilli hit and a long dark chocolate finish which goes into liquorice. The palate is huge in body, with a creamy smooth texture and a long creamy and fairly balanced finish. The alcohol is obvious but relative to the strength it’s still relatively subtle. Overall, for some reason I remember AB:04 as being better than this, like one of the best beers I’ve ever had (and before my Ratebeer days) but this really does still hit the mark.

Pitch black color. Quickly disappaiting head, huge dark chocolate, cayenne pepper spicy nose with vanilla, dark fruit and molasses. Wow. Amazing nose that I could make love to. The mouth is superbly rich with tons of pepper, dark chocolate, dark fruit, extremely rich. Fairly sweet. But the spicy and sweetness balance out each other. Super complex and I am always a sucker for spicy imperial stouts and this is no exception. One of the spiciest I’ve ever tried.

330ml bottle in a box, expensive anniversary ale bought at Vinmonopolet City Nord, Bodø. Oily pour revealing a brownish layer covering a coal black body. Dotted spots at the glass. Lovely aroma of cocoa, dark spices and roasted, semi-sweet malts. Fine blended taste of vanilla sweetness and cocoa offset by spices and roasted malts towards a lingering ending. Warming alcohol. A very nice one, worth the price (at my sister’s house in Bodø, 27.04.2013).
Draught, as BrewDog Dog B, 15 % abv, third-pint measure at BrewDog Leeds. Patchy, fawn-coloured surface. Jet black body. Leather, dark malts and integrated vapour of alcohol. Delicious and comprehensive flavour profile of chocolate and coffee grounds that opens up to an amazing aftertaste of strong pepper and dark bitter fruits lingering down the throat. Full bodied. Enjoying sipper indeed (30.06.2013).

Thx! for sharing Kraddel. 33 cl. bottle in a “fancy” cardboard box. Batch 97. Bottle on 01/04/2012 – making this exactly one year old when consumed. Black with only a few mocha bubbles for a head. Smell is roasted coffee drenched in licorice with age already taking its toll, light booze, spices, molasses, roasted malts,… Taste is chili still there, agreeable burn upfront, burned coffee and malts, alcohol coming through, pure coffee and chocolate, licorice, molasses,… chili heat and alcohol warming. Age is taking some toll. Near flat – agreeable but not really worth some of the praise this gets or the price tag although the latter is no longer a surprise with Brewdog and a prerequisite.

Bottle at CBC - Clerkenwell, London during Bruce’s 30th Birthday Party. Many thanks to Paul! Pours thick black with a stiff, brown cream head. Dry, dark malt aroma, some chili peppers poking through, rich cocoa. Medium to big sweet flavor with dark bread, heavy cocoa, some dark fruits, raisins and torched wood. Full bodied with fine, creamy carbonation and a chewy mouthfeel. Hot finish bot not overbearing, with dry and burnt wood, earthy bitterness and dried cherries. Good stuff.
