Bottle DOG B that I picked up many years ago and is 13 years out of date now. Consumed at home Thursday 30th April 2026 watching The Mentalist on Netflix, we had Fish Fingers & Chips tonight for tea. Poured pitch black the light beige head was impressive for a few seconds before it was consumed by the only, oily depths below. It's held up remarkably well, no off flavours, still plenty of chocolate, smooth, rich and actually very decent. Score 7.7

6y old anniversary beer, opened when 12 y old - aged in my own cellars since release.
Pours black, small tanned head fades fast. Scent is roasty, soy, dark choc. Taste is fairly smooth, roasty, intense , soy. Milder coffee. Some dark chocolate. Held up very well, though i remember it being better ( times and standards sure have changed since, though). Alcohol is quite rough early on but smoothens out in the aftertaste - which is the best part of this beer at this time. Copious bitterness from the roasted malts guide the coffee and roasty aroma's to a crescendo, leaving you grabbing back for another sip. Mouthfeel is fairly full - nothing compared with modern pastries obviously. Medium mild oxidation is noticeable, but than again, the beer is double as old as the brewery was when this was brewed....

Dog B, shared along with c, d/e, f and j for our great 'who let the dogs out' testing bonanza to start of the new year with a bang! Pours completely black, very small head. Aroma is intense dark malts, licorice, chocolate, roasted barley. Big body. Flavour is malty, intense dark malts all around, especially strong licorice, dark chocolate, roasted barley. A good old school imperial stout, but a bit too much roast here to be excellent. Any heat must have disappeared over the years. 3.6 Dog C: definitely not the same beer in taste at this point. Much more complex, less licorice, more chocolate and coffee. Much better. Definitely taste the 'subtle dofferences' with b here. 3.9

Not many bottles of Dog A around now, I was super chuffed that a pal cracked one last weekend. 330ml bottle. Pours oily black with a thin tan head. It's all umami & liquorice over bitter dark chocolate. The chilli has died off. Full body with low carbonation. Still delicious

FLAVOR- moderately sweet, moderately bitter, quite warming, cocoa, chocolate, touch of coffee, very gentle chilli in mouthfeel. Fuller to full bodied. Really good.

Must be 5 year plus old Bottle As Dog C, at home on Good Friday, 10th April 2020. Pours black and thick. Aroma is intense, dark chocolate, barrel, liquor. Taste is rich, barrel, lots of chocolate, don’t get so much coffee, it’s all well integrated, Great liquor, light chilli, nothing to tickle too much. It’s a delicious sipper.
