In 1985 before The Wall fell, and just after the birth of our youngest daughter, Dan followed his Siren’s Call making the true Brewer’s pilgrimage to the birthplace of modern beer; Pilsen. Inspired by the noble brew he scribbled notes; triple decoction, 100% Czech Moravian malt, fermentation in unlined oak tanks, generous amounts of Saaz Hops, Krausening and a three month ice cold lager. An elegant masterpiece of complexity lost to change in the Czech Republic. We resurrect and invest, by brewing without compromise, that exact Old World recipe and this is the brew - Bohemian Lager.

Naja... 9/9/9/9/11/9

12oz bottle pours a hazy, translucent, heavy gold with a thin, creamy white head. Best looking Pils I’ve ever seen. Nice, malty, sugary aroma, white bread, yeast, a strong and distinct honey aroma too. Flavor is sweet, honey, buttery, malty, some good solid citrus too, lemons, oranges. Finish is sweet and super smooth. This is the best lager I’ve ever had, bar none.

Bottle: Poured a golden color lager with a nice foamy head with limited retention and some light lacing. Aroma of floral hops is more dominating then what I had anticipated with some light sweet malt. Taste is easily drinkable with loads of floral hops with a dry aft3ratse and some nice malt that is lightly sweet – a touch of cardboard is noticeable but not too bad and totally understandable since this is not a fresh sample. Body is quite full with good carbonation. Well made if maybe a touch too heavy to drink loads of.

12 oz bottle courtesy of my winter 2009 Secret Santa, served in my Free State anniversary Willebecher. I have been dying to try this one since it was originally announced. Pour is a lightly hazed golden with a one inch foamy white head. Head falls with layers of lacing. Aroma of cereal grain, dusty earthy malt and behind that a bit of spiciness from either the hops or yeast. Nice, clean, but understandably (with the age) subdued. Taste is the nose for the most part, clean cereal grains and grassy earthy malt followed by the dry crisp subdued spiciness. The integration of the flavors is quite good. The palate is the highlight of the beer, nice medium body, unfiltered with the perfect balance of carbonation and dry finish to make it really drinkable. As is, this was nice. I really should have gotten on the ball and tried this fresh. Thanks Santa, this was a great treat.

Why not just call it a Bohemian Pilsner? Anyway, a very good beer. Gold color. Good malt flavor and palate. Yeast in the flavor and aroma, considerable hops. Great palate, it takes me back to holiday in Prague.

12 ounce bottle shared by cdumler. Thanks! Pours a clear golden amber color with lots of carbonation. Thin head lasted forever and left sheets of lacing on the glass. Aroma of toasted malts with slight hints of grass and caramel. Taste is toasted malts, grass, apple and caramel... yes... caramel apple... and a bitter hoppy finish. Excellently balanced and very crisp/ Medium bodied.
