Another year and our best yet. Twelve glorious years total! Thanks guys and gals! As you’ve probably noticed, along the way we’ve developed quite a fetish/addiction for Belgian-style brews. Here’s another style we’ve been craving to concoct - an intricate Saison, full of zesty citrus and spicy notes paired with a subtle herbaceous essence. Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, imported Belgian malted wheat, sweet orange peel, lemon peel, grains of paradise, chamomile, lavender, hops, and Belgian yeast.

Bottle. Pours orange gold with white head. Nose and taste of gummi bears, medicine, lavender, chamomile, orange peel, yeast, wheat malt and herbs. Nose is much more medicinal than the taste, which is quite good. Lighter medium body.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled in 2005. Pours hazy golden amber color with a good 1-2 finger dense white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Good foamy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of big cinnamon, allspice, ginger, biscuit, pepper, clove, coriander, lemon zest, wheat, herbal, floral, earth, and yeast spiciness. Fantastic aromas with great balance and spice complexity; reminiscent of cinnamon toast crunch a bit. Taste of lemon, pear, toast, cinnamon, allspice, ginger, pepper, coriander, wheat, herbal, floral, clove, and yeast spices. Lingering notes of citrus, pepper, cinnamon, clove, herbal, floral, and yeast spices on the finish for a good bit. Nice flavor complexity and balance; zero cloying sweetness. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly slick and slightly crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is was a fantastic saison!(even being 7 years old). Great spice balance and complexity and extremely smooth to sip on. This was very highly enjoyable.

21st June 2010
Cloudy gold beer, Short lived frothy white head. Light semi dry palate. The hops have probably faded after 5 years. What remains is very interesting. Almost Gruit like. Sweet malt, a little citrus and lots of sweet chamomile and lavender. Almost perfumed. Finishes sweet with a minty feel. Nicest Gruit ever! Smooth and sweet.

Slightly cloudy golden coloured body with a thinnish white head. Aroma of grass and sage up front - very strong and overpowering, with some malt, hops and sugars that accentuate the aroma if you keep your nose in it while trying to mask out the herbs. Medium-bodied; Sharp pungent herbiness with oregano, sage and thyme thrown in the mix. A subtle coriander seed taste is in there with some malt and a bit of hops - but nothing else is noticeable due to the high amount of herbs. Aftertaste shows more of the same and the palate is left with herbal overtones and nothing else. Overall, this beer needs to sit for a while before drinking, and even then it still might not be good. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 09-July-2005 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Bottled@FatPhil&oh6gdx EBF-warmup cruise. Slightly hazy golden colour with small white head. Aroma is pumpkin, coconut and lots of other spices/herbs. Flavour is pumpkin, spices, coconut and also quite evident notes of alcoholic sweetness. A rather sweet pumpkin pie-like brew.

Pours a hazy golden yellow with white head. Sweet aromas of gingerbread, spices and some floral notes. Similar flavors with gingerbread and cinnamon dominating. Medium body with average carbonation and a nice creamy mouthfeel. Not your typical saison.

Beige, cloudy. Explosive aroma of ginger, chamomile, florals, yeast, poached pears and brown sugar. Intense, blazing spices (anise and pepper), sublime florals, enough malt body and muscular alcohol to bring it all together. A crazy, interesting brew clearly inspired by the esoteric Fantome brews.

Pours gold into a shaker. Bright white micro head tophats as it slowly recedes to soak the rim. Soapy lemon aromas. Creamy ginger, nutmeg, marshmallow and oranges. Lasting dry funk.

Bottle courtesy of Unclemattie: Poured a golden color ale with a huge foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of spicy yeast and fruity ester is really pleasant. Taste is a well balance mix between some sweet malt with some hints of fruit ester and a spicy yeasty finish with maybe a hint of cinnamon or cloves. Full body with some great carbonation. I am really surprised by how well this beer has aged and it somehow reminded me of Smuttynnose Farmhouse ale.
