Cask at GBBF'23, day two, 02/08/23. Chestnut brown with a beige cap that thins to a swirl. Nose is dates, toffee, brown bread, grains. Taste comprises fruit slice, biscuit, dried fruit rinds, dark malts, toffee. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close. Okay cask affair.

Bottle from the online shop. Clear deep copper. Barely a head. Nose has hedgerow fruit. Cardboard. Plum. Sweet malt. Taste has a soft sweetness. Gets dry and moderately bitter. Light to medium body. Fine carbonation. Dry and bitter finish. Pity about the cardboard thing.

Bottle thanks to Ashton McCobb. Pours clear chestnut brown with a thin off-white head. Aromas of toffee, brown bread. Taste has a hint of red fruit, hazelnuts, caramel. Classic representation of the style.

Bottle from the Blue Anchor brewery online shop. Appearance - amber to chestnut brown. Beige, creamy head. Nose - toffee, caramel and bready. A hint of red fruit and orange peel. Taste - mainly caramel, some bread and toffee. Palate - medium bodied, sweet middle and light roasty bitterness on the finish. Overall - will have to visit the Blue Anchor one day as the cask reviews for their beers seem to be better than those from bottle.

500ml bottle from Darts Farm, Topsham. Pours clear dark chestnut brown. Aroma: sweet-ish, malt, caramel, wood, forest fruits. Taste: light to moderate sweet & bitter, rich caramel, fruity. Medium body with light carbonation. Not sure I'd have this as an Old Ale
