Named after a famous local mountain – Schiehallion (pronounced ‘She-hal-i-on’) presented a huge challenge – creating a Pilsner the Czech would be proud of. Brewed with lager malt and Hersbrücker and Challenger hops. Fermented with a lager yeast.

Many thanks for this champagne lager to jacek Wigier (wineofdreams@gmail.com) Piwo dolnej fermentacji, niby nic specjalnego ale w takie 30 stopniowe upaly jest boskie, wytrawne, chmielne z mala dawka slodowosci. Jasne jak zloto olimpijskie. Do tego spora trwala piana

Swing-top picked up at Bridge Of Allan. It pours pale golden with a touch of haze with a few bubbles on the cap. The aroma is perfumed, sweet, oily, freshly cut grass, dull pine and lemon sherbet. The taste is soft, sweet, oily, doughy bread, grassy, straw, peppery, sponge cake, dull spice and muffin. Medium body and low carbonation. Far too flat, which is a shame.. Decent flavour, but lack of carbonation is a real shame.

Cask at the George, Croydon. It pours clear amber with a small white head. The nose is sweet, doughy, orange muffin, toasty grain and earth. The taste is crisp, doughy, bitter-sweet, light grass, caramel, white sugar, light alcohol and dull toasty grain with a dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Nowhere near the greatness of keg or bottle version. Ok at best.

From bottle. Aroma: heavily hoppy. Lemony, floral, grassy. Some pale malts along. Light body. Taste: dry and hoppy. Really bitter. Somewhat acrid. Citrusy, grassy, floral notes. Remarkable lager.

Clear golden pour. Pale malts & grassy aroma. Taste is similar. Light sweet, light bitter, pale malts, grassy hop. Light body, soft carb, creamy mouthfeel, soft dry lightly bitter finish. Nice on cask, prefer it to the keg version. The creaminess on cask suits the beer

33 cl bottle (actually two bottles in a row) at The Capital hotel bar, London. Pour is bright intense golden with a soft, abundant, ivory-colored head. Aroma is low when it comes to intensity, but high when it comes to diversity; so you get (if you take the time to smell all the scents before sipping) stupendous fragrances such as cardamom, mandarin, grapefruit, and a tinge of eucalyptus. Taste starts humble, then develops a medium body with some bitterness to it, and ends in a very long and well-balanced finish. Very elegant pilsner, I must say.

500 mL bottle poured, best by August 2018. The bottle was purchased in Scotland, but unfortunately it wasn't me there to get it. A lot more beer would have been purchased, had that been the case. Anyway, thanks to my Dad for the bottle, and remembering my strange obsessions even when you are on vacation. A mostly clear, bright golden pour. Picked a good time of day to crack a premium lager. Minutes after the 11 hour work day. Rating may reflect this thirst. Patchy, oily foam head. Very soft aroma of grains and fruity hops? Cool and crisp front. This has a subtle but inviting grapefruit character to it that I wasn't expecting at all, even after seeing it mentioned on the bottle itself. The commercial description on the bottle sounds like a rating for this site. Well written too, which is probably more than I can say about this one. I like this though. I've had way too many premium lagers that lacked any characteristics that set it aside from all the others, which is what I would define as premium anyway. It's been fun debating with people the irony of how everything listed as a premium lager seems to be anything but that. Cool. Refreshing. Crisp, but not too thin. Has a slight creamy side to it. Lingering grapefruit like reminder, a touch of plastic maybe. Good stuff overall. I'm way overthinking this lager, aren't I?

Bottle at home. A good lager that is in no way bad, but could never be described as great.
