A speciality old ale that speaks for itself. Pronounced chocolate flavours and a pleasant orange addition combine perfectly in this delightfully different offering.

Cask at the Wellington, Birmingham. Poured a clear dark brown with a thin long lasting off white head. The aroma is unsurprisingly chocolate and orange. The flavour is moderate sweet with a big rich smooth chocolate orange, light spicy hop, light alcohol liqourice bitter palate. This really is like drinking a Terry’s Chocolate Orange. Awesome!

Tried at the White Bear, Tewkesbury. Deep brown to amber colour with a cream coloured head. Aroma is light chocolate and fruit, no orange for me. Taste is a bit too citrus and chocolate for me.

Bottle that Dad shared with me, originally from the Grumpy Goat in Reading. Huge gusher but swift action meant I saved nearly all of it, and the dark brown beer and beige head that escaped matched my Mum & Dad’s kitchen carpet well enough that no harm was done. Some mineral flavour up front is initially outputting, but is fortunately soon replaced by chocolate, lightly roasted malt and oak. There’s no trace of the orange other than a little juicy sweetness behind the mildly dry finish. Grew on me quite a bit after the unpromising start, not a bad beer actually.

500ml Bottle - Dark brown with red tinges and a foamy head. Malt and hints of cocoa and orange in the aroma. Malty and slightly tangy taste with roasted malt and some noticeable yet not particularly strong notes of chocolate and orange.

On cask at the Haymarket. Appearance - opaque black with toffee shades. Nose - very subdued chocolate and orange but pleasant malt aroma. Taste - definitely chocolate and the orange is there in the background. Good biscuit note. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a fairly fresh finish considering. Overall - a pleasant ale.

Cask @ Falcon, Clapham Junction. Very translucent dark brown. Chocolate malt dominates aroma, with slight citrus. Bitter taste, slight powdered chocolate flavour. Ok but doesn’t really justify high ABV.

Dark ruby, clear, off white think head, good lacing
Aroma - soft milk chocolate, dark malts, soft on the nose
Taste - soft chocolate dark malts, slight fruity tang. slight hint of bitter zest, not really getting the orange, somple flavour, easy for 5.8%, bit 1 dimensional tbh
Palate - soft carb, medium body, nice smooth malts. Finish - smooth soft dark malts, vague soft bitter linger
Overall - OK, bit low on flavour though

Cask at Walsall Beer festival. Light aroma of chocolate orange, and also in the flavor with some malt. A bit thin and watery though.

Pigs Ear. Clear dark brown beer. Good sized pale cream coloured head. Light smooth palate. No carbonation. Dry. Very dry! Smooth dark chocolate - powdery. The fruit is saccahrin sweet and is err - apple! There is a little orange as well! Dry finish. Too dry and way to appley!
