Kempisch Vuur Winter Oak Aged. Golden colour, bit of a gusher, almost no foam. Lively carbonation. Sweet/sour beer. Green apples, smoke, port. Bit unbalanced but ok.

Taste: bit sourish in the start, wood notes, more sour, slightly sweet, fruity, gentle bitterness. Aftertaste: bitter touch, fruiy, bit lemony, lemon peel, orange peel, tannins, more bitterness. Meh.

Tap at the Essen OBER Kerstbierfestival 2013. Poured a hazy medium amber with a thin white head and lots of broken lace. The aroma is acid vinegar sour. The flavour is medium sour with a woody alcohol bitter palate and long bitter medicinal finish.

The barrel aging seemed to have little effect. The 2012 version is plagued by it’s cinnamon dominance. Hopefully 2013 will be better.

Draft sample at Essen Kerstbierfestival. Pours cloudy golden brown with thick cream head. Aroma of tart fruit, funk, oak, caramel and toffee. Flavour is over moderate sweet, moderate bitter and light acidic. Full bodied with soft carbonation.

Sampled draft @ Kerstbierfestival Essen 2013. Darker amber with a white head. Nose is very sweet, lots of honey, oak, very fruity, pear candy. Taste is bitter herbs upfront, spices, lots of vanilla, touch charred wood in the back, bitter finish. Creamy wood vanilla feel, way more interesting than expected, pretty neat brew.
