As with all Gueuzes, Hanssens is a mixture of several vintages to produce a lambic which is refreshingly fruity. This is the result of blending different lambics of different ages. The second fermentation takes place inside the bottles and therefore they are stored for minimum six months in constant temperature kept cellars.

75 cl, bottle from 2016. Best before 2020. Hazy yellowish golfen, quickly dissipating white foam. Aroma is domonated by green apple, grapes, citrus, vinegar. Taste is immediately sour, a maintained sourness, acidic feel theoughout, paired with grapes and apples. Medium body, fairly carbonated for the style, small intense bubbles. Very fresh, not so much characteristics of horse blanket - more focus on the sourness.

375ml bottle from Abeervinum, Rimini, Italy. Pours slight orange gold, with quickly fading white foam. Aroma is intense, of barn, mandarin. Body is quite good, with intense carbonation and good astringency. Taste is intensely sour. Some sweetness too. Finish is average in length.

8 years old vintage bottle @Luppolo Station in Rome. Amberish clear pour with minimal white foam, not much retention. Nose is very fruity with a soft sourness. Mouth: lost pretty much that citric gueuze character, flat, fruity and with a charming peppery aftertaste.

375ml bottle from Chez Sophie. Drunk on the Dover - Dunkirk ferry. Pours murky golden brown. Aroma is vinegar funk, wild yeast, wild sour. Taste is prickly, sharp, super tangy, horseblanket funk, mild fruity elements. Pretty decent tangy gueuze.

2016 bottle, under US$10 bought at Liquor Shed.
Pours a hazy honey colour, big head of foam than aboot half an inch that maintains itself. Yes, thar be lacing.
Green apple and vinegar sour smells waft up to my nose buds. Kinda oaky/woody, gots to have me a taste or 3.
Wow. Sour apples, not over the top sour vinegar, oak leans towards a woody character. Sour level, to me, would be around 3 out of 5. That's part of what enthralls me aboot this Gueuze.
Medium body with medium light carbonation.
I, quite frankly, find this a world class example of the style. Love for Hanssens just grew exponentially.
