Bottle thanks to Stuu666. Appearance - opaque black with a lovely fawn head. Nose - green notes like seaweed. Bandaid. Miso soup. Salty. Taste - smoky, seaweed, back chocolate note. Palate - full bodied with a big creamy texture and a full smoky dry finish. Overall - my reservations are that the whisky barrel has dominated the beer but in reality it’s a lovely beer.

Bottle shared at Ash’s. Pours black with a thin tan head. Aromas of iodine, seaweed, whisky. Taste is rich, peaty, oily, some coffee notes creeping in. Light booze heat on the finish. First wee tasting of the summer

Opaque dark brown beer, decent tan head. Palate is airy and semi dry. Mild fine carbonation. The dark malts are fluffy but have a coffee bitterness. Tangy TCP is evident but not overpowering. Little smoke and a trace of dark fruits. Dry bitterish finish. Okay.

Bottle thanks graciously to Toby at The Kernel. Black beer with a HUGE tan head. Really no need for that level of carbonation. Strong Caol Ila whisky smoked peaty aroma. Now much against common opinion that doesn’t mean that I will take an instant disliking to this beer just cos it’s barrel aged and in an Islay whisky cask. Although the aroma is strongly individualistic it isn’t completely overpowering nor unbalanced. I think it’s pretty damn good and that’s cos the base beer is big and well constructed enough to carry the barrel ageing. Muscular dark malts underpin this beer. Goes well with chicken tikka and ciabatta bread. Classy beer with big intense aromas and flavours. . Impressive.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Poured a dark mahogany with a bubbly tan head. The aroma is big medicinal hop, roasted malt. The flavour is strong bitter with a huge alcohol bitter palate. The alcohol really dominates this beer for sure. I liked it, but barrel aged beers normally deliver so much more. Barrel aged beers need to compliment a beer, not dominate it, which is what happens here.

Bottle shared thanks to jmgreenuk. Pours near black with a thick beige head. Aroma of Caol Ila, massive and overpowering anything else. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter. Behind the Caol Ila in the palate there is roast, dark chocolate and caramel. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation. Simply too overpowered by the scotch.

Bottle thanks to Colin. Pours very dark brown with brown head. Nose and taste of roast chocolate, whiskey, oak, vanilla, crunchy nuts and earth. A touch heavy on the whiskey but not overly boozy. Medium body.
